Can MRI examination confirm suspected prostate cancer?

Can MRI examination confirm suspected prostate cancer?

At present, my country has entered an aging society, and the incidence of prostate cancer in men has shown a clear upward trend. In economically developed regions such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, the incidence of prostate cancer has even exceeded that of bladder cancer and kidney cancer, ranking first in the incidence of urinary system tumors.

Men should be alert to the occurrence of prostate cancer after the age of 60, especially elderly men with a family history. During the outpatient examination of urology, the commonly used prostate cancer screening indicator is prostate-specific antigen (PSA). This indicator can be completed by blood test, and the normal range is 0-4ng/ml. If the test result is above 4ng/ml, it is recommended to find a specialist doctor for rectal digital examination to understand the size, texture, and presence of nodules of the prostate. At the same time, a transrectal color Doppler ultrasound can be performed. This examination uses an ultrasound probe to pass through the rectum to view the prostate, which may be a little uncomfortable. If the rectal ultrasound indicates that the prostate has low-echo nodules on the periphery, it must be taken seriously. This situation often indicates the occurrence of prostate cancer. It is necessary to make an appointment for further examination of the prostate MRI to intuitively understand the location, size, and infiltration range of the tumor and whether it invades surrounding organs. After these examinations are completed, prostate cancer must be confirmed by puncture biopsy, and pathological diagnosis is the final confirmed diagnosis!
In short, if prostate cancer is suspected, a preliminary screening with PSA is required, followed by further examination with rectal ultrasound and prostate MRI, and finally a confirmed diagnosis with a puncture biopsy!
