What kind of pillow is good for vertebral discomfort

What kind of pillow is good for vertebral discomfort

Nowadays, most people have cervical spondylosis problems due to frequent playing with mobile phones. The neck remains in the same position for a long time when looking at the phone, which will cause damage to the cervical vertebra. Many people also damage the cervical vertebra when sleeping with pillows that are too high or too low. Therefore, choosing a suitable pillow is also very important for people with cervical spondylosis. So what kind of pillow should I use if my cervical spine is not good?

We spend about 1/3 of our lives in bed, so the sleeping posture and whether the pillow is appropriate have a great impact on our cervical spine. So should patients with cervical spondylosis use pillows when sleeping? In fact, if we don't use pillows when sleeping, our head will be lower than the heart, which will cause more blood to flow into the head, affecting blood circulation in the head, which may cause dizziness after waking up or poor sleep.

Moreover, if you sleep without a pillow, a fulcrum will be formed between the head and the back of the neck, causing the neck to be suspended in the air. This may cause the cervical curvature to decrease and become straight, and may even cause dislocation of the posterior intervertebral joints, which will accelerate the degeneration of the cervical spine. Therefore, not using a pillow will not only fail to effectively relieve cervical spondylosis, but will increase the harm to the cervical spine.

So what kind of pillow is suitable for patients with cervical spondylosis?

So what kind of pillow should patients with cervical spondylosis choose? In fact, a pillow that is too high or too low is not good for the cervical spine.

If the pillow is too high, no matter what sleeping position you choose, you will not be able to maintain the normal lordotic curvature of the cervical spine when sleeping. This will increase the burden on the cervical spine and may cause stiff neck. So when you experience numbness in your hands and feet while sleeping, or experience neck pain, dizziness, insomnia, etc. after waking up, it may be because your pillow is too high.

If the pillow is too low, it will cause congestion in the head, resulting in swelling of the eyelids and face, and the lower jaw will be lifted upward, making it easy to breathe with the mouth open while sleeping, causing snoring symptoms. So if you wake up in the morning with sore shins and shoulders, it may be caused by the pillow being too low or too soft.

So, how should you choose the right pillow?

First of all, we want to talk about how to choose the correct sleeping position. When sleeping, it is generally better to sleep on your back or side. Sleeping on your stomach will cause your head and neck to be on one side for a long time. The extremely twisted position will make the neck muscles tense and cause problems with our muscles, ligaments, and joints. Also, don't put your arms under your head as a pillow when you sleep, as this will affect the blood circulation in your neck and upper limbs.

Therefore, when choosing a pillow, you should choose one that is moderately soft. After the pillow is compressed, it is best to be higher than the height of your fist, about 6-8 cm. The pillow should be placed at the junction of the neck, which can effectively set off the scenic area and provide effective support for the neck while sleeping. This will also allow the neck muscles to relax and rest.
