Nursing methods for patients with esophageal cancer

Nursing methods for patients with esophageal cancer

Surgery does not mean the end of a stage of treatment. For patients with esophageal cancer, surgery is just the beginning of a treatment. What is more important is the postoperative care of the patient. How to quickly restore the patient's body functions and immunity after surgery? Let us learn about the five nursing measures for esophageal cancer through the following introduction.

1. After the operation, the patient should undergo comprehensive ECG monitoring and closely monitor all vital signs of the patient for 24 to 48 hours depending on the patient's recovery.

2. Keep the chest drainage unobstructed to drain the pleural effusion smoothly, so as to facilitate the lung to re-expand as soon as possible. And pay attention to the drainage volume and the nature of the drainage. After 48 hours, if the daily drainage volume is less than 100ml and the chest X-ray and auscultation show good lung expansion, the drainage tube can be removed.

3. Patients with esophageal cancer surgery cannot eat for 5 to 7 days and mainly rely on intravenous infusion. The amount of infusion should be adjusted according to the daily fluid excretion. The total amount per hour for patients with thoracotomy should be controlled within 3000ml, and the infusion speed should not be too fast. If duodenal nutrition solution is used, the intravenous infusion volume should be appropriately reduced. In recent years, early enteral nutrition has been advocated, which can be started 24 hours after surgery, using a heated micro pump.

4. Antibiotics should be used rationally, neither too single nor abused. The reduction of complications in recent years may be related to the use of effective antibiotics.

5. Encouraging patients to cough up sputum effectively is beneficial to the prevention and treatment of pulmonary complications, and effective gastrointestinal decompression is beneficial to the healing of anastomosis, so sufficient attention should be given.

After understanding the above five nursing measures for esophageal cancer, we understand that the postoperative care for patients must be more rigorous, cautious and careful. Maintaining the patient's physical condition and recovery speed from all aspects is a very important thing in postoperative work.
