What's the matter with poor digestion

Everyone's physical fitness is different, so the digestion and absorption functions of the gastrointestinal system are also different. Some people digest very quickly, so they will feel particularly hungry during the day; but some people digest very slowly, and even do not want to eat even when it is time for a meal. The causes of indigestion are also very complicated. Here we will give you a brief introduction to the causes of indigestion.

1. What causes frequent indigestion?

1.1 Basic reasons

We usually have indigestion, which is often related to our eating. It may be due to overeating, eating too much greasy food, drinking too much, or taking painkillers frequently, all of which may cause indigestion.

1.2 Helicobacter pylori infection

We all know that Helicobacter pylori is closely related to our gastrointestinal diseases, and indigestion may also be the same.

1.3 Gastrointestinal motility disorders

Gastrointestinal motility disorders are one of the main causes of indigestion. What we call abnormal motility of the proximal stomach and antrum, delayed gastric emptying of solid matter, and pyloric-duodenal motility disorders are all common gastrointestinal motility disorders.

1.4 Food

If you eat too much food containing protein and calcium, the alkaline nature of these foods can easily lead to constipation and indigestion.

1.5. Mental reasons

If a person's spirit is in a state of tension, anxiety, depression, or excessive excitement for a long time, these can easily cause gastrointestinal diseases, leading to indigestion.

2. What are the symptoms of frequent indigestion?

2.1. Upper abdominal pain

Upper abdominal pain is a common symptom. Some patients have upper abdominal pain as the main symptom, with or without other upper abdominal symptoms.

Upper abdominal pain is often irregular. In some patients, upper abdominal pain is related to eating, manifesting as fullness pain, which is relieved after eating, or as persistent abdominal pain between half an hour and three hours after a meal.

2.2 Abdominal distension

Early satiety and abdominal pain are common symptoms of indigestion and may occur alone or in a group with or without abdominal pain. Early satiety refers to a feeling of fullness, but the feeling of fullness occurs shortly after eating, so that the amount of food eaten is significantly reduced.

2.3 Other symptoms

Many patients also have mental symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety, depression, headache, and inattention. These symptoms are related to the "cancer fear" in some patients.

3. What to do if you often have indigestion

3.1. Implement “hunger therapy”

Fast for one or two meals as appropriate. During the fasting period, you can drink light salt water according to your thirst to replenish water and salt in time. You can also drink sugar + salt water, because sugar can be quickly absorbed and will not increase the gastrointestinal burden. If you don't need to fast completely, you can reduce the amount of food you eat, or only eat easily digestible porridge with some appetizers.

3.2. Appropriate use of digestive aids

It should generally be used under the guidance of a specialist. If it is an over-the-counter drug, it can be used according to the drug instructions. Commonly used drugs include metoclopramide, a gastrokinetic drug that can enhance the emptying of food from the stomach and relieve stomach bloating. Aspergillus oryzae pancreatic enzyme tablets (Combinasil) can supplement digestive enzymes, promote food decomposition, and enhance nutrient absorption.

3.3. Keep a good mood

Chatting with people in your spare time can also relieve fatigue and reduce the mental stress caused by indigestion. Chatting can relieve temporary unhappiness and get rid of emotions such as excitement, anger, depression, doubt, etc. It can also increase the patient's confidence in overcoming the disease, be beneficial to the stomach's digestion and absorption, and promote thinking and exercise brain power.
