How to deal with constipation in lung cancer patients after chemotherapy

Lung cancer patients after chemotherapy often have symptoms such as loss of appetite and abdominal distension while constipated, which is caused by many reasons such as not eating enough, food that is too refined and lacks fiber, lack of activity, use of anesthetics and mental stress. The treatment methods for constipation are as follows:

(1) Appropriate exercise. If the patient's condition allows, the patient can be assisted to get out of bed and move around. If the patient's physical condition permits, the patient should do some housework within his ability and strive to take care of himself. This can not only increase gastrointestinal motility, but also regulate mood, disperse tension, and improve the atmosphere of life.

(2) Go to the toilet on time. Based on past bowel habits, even if you do not feel like going to the toilet, you should go to the toilet on time (or according to habit) to induce bowel movements.

(3) The diet should contain an appropriate amount of fiber, such as celery and leeks. Patients should eat more fresh vegetables, fruits and whole grains, and drink more water, especially 200 ml of boiled water in the morning (preferably cold, but warm water can be used if the body is not used to it), which can effectively lubricate the intestines.

(4) If there is no bowel movement for 3 days, a laxative should be used. 30 ml of liquid paraffin can be taken orally 3 times a day. Enema can also be used.

(5) When the stool is dry and hard, you can use oil for retention enema to soften the stool and promote defecation, or have a nurse perform artificial defecation.
