Ultrasound findings of gallbladder cancer

Ultrasound findings of gallbladder cancer

Ultrasound findings of gallbladder cancer include:

Ultrasound is the simplest and most effective auxiliary examination method for gallbladder. The characteristics of B-type ultrasound examination of gallbladder are: (1) Polypoid lesions: Early lesions are larger than 1.0 cm in diameter and broad-based. Strong echoes protruding into the gallbladder cavity can be seen; light masses and polypoid protrusions without acoustic shadows; late lesions are enlarged masses, and there is local or extensive thickening of the gallbladder wall, and even the gallbladder cavity is filled with tumor tissue, showing a solid gallbladder image. (2) Diffuse infiltrative lesions: Tumor tissue grows infiltratively along the gallbladder wall, showing thickening of the gallbladder wall and irregular narrowing of the cystic cavity. (3) Advanced gallbladder cancer: Lesions invade adjacent tissues, abdominal lymph nodes swell, and strong echoes are formed in the hepatic hilar area. Lymph nodes in the pancreatic head are swollen, forming an acoustic shadow of the pancreatic head, or obstructive manifestations such as dilatation of the intrahepatic bile duct may occur.

Since gallbladder cancer is difficult to detect and diagnose at an early stage, and B-ultrasound examination has its limitations, endoscopic ultrasound examination (EUS) has been developed in recent years at home and abroad, and has certain advantages. EUS can directly scan the gallbladder through the duodenal bulb or descending part, and clearly display the three-layer structure of the gallbladder wall, which can not only improve the early diagnosis rate of gallbladder cancer, but also determine the possibility of surgical resection according to the depth of tumor infiltration and provide a basis for formulating surgical plans.
