Pathological manifestations of cervical cancer in situ

Pathological manifestations of cervical cancer in situ

Cervical carcinoma in situ is cervical cancer in situ, also known as intraepithelial carcinoma. The histopathological manifestation is that the cancer cells occupy the entire layer of the cervical epithelium, but have not yet penetrated the epithelial basement membrane and invaded the underlying lamina propria. The atypical cells of cervical carcinoma in situ are more significantly atypical than those with atypical hyperplasia. Microscopically, the cervical epithelial layer is completely replaced by cancer cells. The size and shape of the cells are different, round, oval, and spindle-shaped. Occasionally, there are giant nuclei and multiple nuclei. The cells are arranged in a disordered manner, the layers are unclear, and the polarity disappears. The nuclei are large and darkly stained, the size and shape are different, the chromatin is coarsened, the nuclear division images are common, and there are pathological nuclear division images. The cytoplasm is relatively reduced, and the nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio increases. The cancer cells of cervical carcinoma in situ can grow on the basement membrane along the columnar epithelium to the periphery of the glands in the stroma, resulting in the entire glandular duct or part of it being replaced by cancer cells, but the outline of the glandular duct still exists and the glandular basement membrane is intact. This change is called carcinoma in situ involving the gland. Since cervical carcinoma in situ, especially carcinoma in situ involving the glands, has a tendency to develop into invasive cervical cancer, it should be treated promptly once it is discovered.
