Nursing methods for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma

After treatment, patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma need to go through a long recovery process, so that they can be prepared to fight a protracted battle with the disease, reduce negative emotions such as fear, anxiety, and tension, take good psychological care, follow the doctor's instructions for reexamination, and cooperate with treatment. Because the location of the lesion is relatively special.

The following points should be followed in the care of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma:

1. Mental care for nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients: relieve patients’ mental stress and eliminate the adverse consequences caused by tension, anxiety and fear. Ask cured patients to share their treatment experience and explain to patients the common knowledge about tumors and treatment to enhance patients’ confidence in defeating cancer.

2. Skin care for nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients: Keep the irradiated skin clean and dry, avoid using alkaline soaps, ointments, cosmetics, prevent mechanical stimulation, friction and scratching, avoid hot compresses, apply peppermint starch for local itching, apply hydrogenated oil for mild exudation or ulceration

3. Oral care for nasopharyngeal cancer patients: Pay attention to oral hygiene, brush your teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush, and rinse your mouth with saline or Dobel's solution. It is best to brush your teeth and rinse your mouth after meals and before going to bed. Before radiotherapy, you must clean your teeth and treat dental diseases to avoid a decrease in local resistance after radiotherapy. If you extract your teeth, it will cause extensive bone necrosis.

4. Nasopharyngeal care for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma: Keep the nasopharyngeal cavity clean, rinse the nasal cavity 2-3 times a day, and use 0.25% chloramphenicol eye drops in the nose, and chloramphenicol solution in the throat and oropharynx 2-3 times a day.

5. Eye and ear care: Pay attention to the cleanliness and protection of the ears and eyes. You can use anti-infection eye drops, tetracycline, erythromycin eye ointment, etc. If the eyes cannot be closed, cover them with gauze at night.
