What are the common clinical manifestations of patients with colon cancer

Colon cancer has no symptoms in the early stages, and the symptoms in the late stages are atypical and non-specific. The early onset, severity, and type of symptoms of colon cancer depend on where the tumor occurs in the colon, the rate of tumor growth, the general type of the tumor, and the patient's sensitivity.

1. Bleeding

The surface of the tumor is brittle and inelastic, and it is easy to bleed after friction with stool. Bleeding from colon cancer depends on the location of the tumor, the rate of tumor growth, the nature of the patient's stool and bowel habits.

2. Obstructive symptoms caused by tumors

The occurrence, frequency, and severity of colon cancer obstruction symptoms also depend on the location of the tumor in the colon, the gross type of the tumor, the growth rate of the tumor, the patient's stool characteristics, and the motility of the colon.

3. Gastrointestinal symptoms

When the lesions of colon cancer develop to a certain extent, patients may experience non-specific gastrointestinal symptoms, such as decreased appetite, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, diarrhea (mucus stool or mucus and blood in stool, etc.), constipation, or alternating diarrhea and constipation.

4. Intestinal perforation

Intestinal perforation in colon cancer is rare, 3/4 of which occur at the tumor site, and 1/4 occur in the proximal intestinal tract of intestinal obstruction caused by the tumor, especially in the cecum proximal to the tumor where the intestinal diameter is the largest.
