Women who stay up late are more likely to develop ovarian cancer

There are many "night owls" in life who wake up at noon and are full of energy at night, having the best working condition. However, studies have shown that staying up late to work overtime may make women more susceptible to ovarian cancer.

Staying up late will disrupt the body's normal biological clock (circadian rhythm) and is a strong carcinogenic factor. Researchers conducted a survey on 1,101 female patients with common advanced epithelial cell ovarian cancer, and used 389 borderline tumors and 1,823 healthy women as controls. The average age of the surveyed population was between 35 and 47 years old.

The results of the study found that compared with people with normal work and rest schedules, staying up late increases the risk of ovarian cancer, with the risk of advanced tumors increasing by 24% and the risk of early tumors increasing by 49%. In addition, if you cannot make up for your sleep after staying up late, the risk of advanced ovarian cancer is even higher, at 29%. At the same time, only women over 50 years old who suffer from ovarian cancer are affected by night work.

Researchers believe that melatonin may be the main reason why women who stay up late are more likely to develop ovarian cancer. Melatonin is released at night and can regulate sex hormones, especially estrogen. Melatonin can also remove harmful free radicals and promote the production of other antioxidants in the body. Light stimulation at night inhibits the release of melatonin, which may be a major reason why working at night increases the risk of ovarian cancer.
