Characteristics of holmium laser treatment for superficial bladder cancer

In clinical practice, laser surgery can be used to treat bladder cancer by coagulation or vaporization. So, what are the characteristics of holmium laser treatment of superficial bladder cancer?

1. Mainly used to treat tumors with a diameter less than 2 cm, which are relatively superficial and localized.

2. Holmium laser surgery is non-invasive or minimally invasive surgery, and the patient's treatment pain is relatively small. Compared with transurethral bladder tumor resection, the penetration depth of holmium laser into human tissue is very shallow. The tissue penetration depth of laser surgery is less than 0.5mm, and the minimum is only 0.38mm. It does not produce obturator nerve reflex during resection, and can avoid bladder perforation and other injuries. Therefore, holmium laser surgery causes little damage to surrounding tissues and is highly safe.

3. Holmium laser fiber is soft and thin, and can be used in conjunction with the control of the steering device on the cystoscope or with a flexible endoscope to treat bladder tumors. There is almost no blind spot, so the indications are expanded.

4. The field of vision is clear during treatment, the tumor is removed accurately, the adjacent tissues are slightly damaged, the wound heals quickly after surgery, the catheter is indwelling for a short time, and the operation can be completed in an outpatient clinic.

5. There is no shedding of carbonized tissue and there is minimal bleeding after surgery. Generally, hematuria will be visible to the naked eye after 2-3 days.

6. While cutting and vaporizing the tumor, the lymphatic vessels and blood vessels around the tumor pedicle can be blocked, thereby reducing or preventing the spread of cancer cells. It can also destroy detached cancer cells and completely destroy the cancer cells around the wound surface to avoid cancer cell implantation and metastasis.

7. The elderly and frail patients, those with coagulation disorders, and those with pacemakers can also tolerate this surgery.
