6 points to note in postoperative care for brain cancer patients

In daily care, correct and scientific nursing methods are very important for brain cancer patients. They can not only enhance the patient's physical fitness and increase the tolerance to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, but also help the patient recover. So, what should be paid attention to in postoperative care?

1. People who cannot eat or are in a coma should strengthen oral care to prevent oral infection. Oral care can be provided with 0.05% chlorhexidine or normal saline.

2. Patients can eat a small amount of liquid food if they have no difficulty swallowing 6 hours after anesthesia, and then gradually change to soft food. For patients who remain unconscious and have swallowing dysfunction for 24 hours after brain cancer surgery, liquid food should be fed through nasogastric tube, and pay attention to eating small meals frequently, with each meal less than 200ml. The interval should be greater than 2 hours to prevent indigestion.

3. After surgery, patients should pay attention to turning over, clasping their backs, and properly massaging the skin of the pressure area to prevent bedsores and pneumonia. Elderly patients in particular should pay attention to moving their lower limbs, taking warm water baths every day, massaging the muscles of their limbs, etc., to prevent lower limb venous thrombosis or phlebitis.

4. Patients should pay attention to a balanced diet, eat more light and easily digestible food, drink plenty of water to facilitate bowel movements, avoid constipation leading to increased intracranial pressure, and be careful not to strain during bowel movements or cough. Patients should choose a high-protein, high-nutrition, easily digestible diet, eat more vegetables and fruits to promote intestinal peristalsis, and facilitate the excretion of toxins in the body.

5. Ensure adequate sleep and proper exercise. Patients should generally sleep for 8 hours. While resting more, they should not stay in bed for a long time. They should also exercise moderately. Patients can practice Tai Chi, do health exercises, take walks, etc. Patients can take walks for about 15 minutes each time, 2-3 times a day, and the walking speed should be slow.

6. Patients should take precautions against colds and avoid sneezing, coughing, or blowing their noses, which may increase intracranial pressure.
