Dietary arrangements for brain cancer patients before and after surgery

Brain cancer patients should increase their nutrition appropriately before surgery. Thinner patients should be given high-calorie, high-protein, and high-vitamin foods so that they can gain weight in a short period of time. Obese patients should be given high-protein, low-calorie, and low-fat foods so that they can store some protein and consume body fat, because excessive fat will affect wound healing.

Generally, patients should not eat 12 hours before surgery and should not drink water 4-6 hours before surgery to prevent vomiting and aspiration pneumonia during anesthesia or surgery. Excessive food accumulation in the gastrointestinal tract will also affect the smooth progress of the operation.

Brain cancer patients generally use special ways to supply nutrition in the early stage after surgery, such as intravenous nutrition. After the gastrointestinal function is restored, you can first give clear liquid food or liquid food, and gradually transition to semi-liquid food, soft food or ordinary food, and you can increase your nutritional intake by eating small meals frequently. Since surgical trauma patients need to supplement a lot of protein and vitamins, in order to promote early recovery or receive other treatments as soon as possible, in principle, they should eat high-protein, high-calorie and high-vitamin nutritious foods after surgery, such as beef, mutton, lean pork, chicken, fish, shrimp, eggs, ribs and soy products, etc., and drink more milk.
