Medication Guide for Stage 3 Cancer Pain in Lymphoma Patients

As the disease progresses, patients with lymphoma may experience severe cancer pain, which not only worsens the patient's condition, but also causes physical and mental pain to the patient. Medication is the most basic, effective, and commonly used method for treating cancer pain. Before choosing medication to treat pain, it is necessary to determine the specific cause of the pain, assess the intensity and nature of the pain, and then reasonably select painkillers based on the different degrees of pain in the patient.

1. Mild cancer pain

Patients with mild pain can generally tolerate it, live a normal life, and sleep is basically undisturbed. The principle of medication is oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics. This type of analgesics acts on nerve endings, has antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, can inhibit the production of hypothalamic prostaglandin synthase, reduce the synthesis and release of prostaglandin E, and is very effective for the pain of patients with bone metastases with high prostaglandin content.

2. Moderate cancer pain

Moderate cancer pain is often persistent, and patients have poor sleep quality and decreased appetite. Patients with this type of pain need to use analgesics, but in principle, they should be given nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics and some auxiliary analgesics, such as tramadol or weak opioid analgesics, such as codeine and dextropropoxyphene. For those with severe insomnia, tranquilizers and hypnotics can be taken in moderation at night.

3. Severe cancer pain

Cancer pain is severe or unbearable, and has seriously interfered with the patient's sleep and diet. At this time, general analgesics are basically ineffective, and other analgesics or weak opioid analgesics have no analgesic effect. Severe pain can be relieved by using strong opioid analgesics under the guidance of a doctor.
