The role of periosteum

The role of periosteum

The functions of the periosteum are to provide cellular support, nutritional supplements and promote fracture healing for new bone. The periosteum is wrapped around the outside of the bone and has rich blood vessels and nerves. It can transport nutrients to the bone and plays a good role in bone growth and repair.

1. Cell support: The periosteum can provide all kinds of cells needed for the formation of new bone and has a good ability to promote bone growth. Because it is one of the main mesenchymal stem cells, it can promote the massive formation of new bone and play a very important role in the formation of new bone tissue. It can rapidly proliferate and differentiate into a variety of bone cells, thereby promoting the growth of new bone.

2. Nutritional supplementation: The periosteum can provide sufficient nutrients and cells for bone repair. The periosteum itself cannot directly induce new bone formation, but the periosteum contains a large number of blood vessels, which can bring various cells with osteogenic potential, oxygen, nutrients and other substances to bone repair.

3. Fracture healing: Fractures will cause local bone defects. The periosteum is rich in blood vessels, which can provide the bones with the necessary nutrients, allowing the bones to continue to grow and thicken, and promote the growth of local fractures. During fracture surgery, the periosteum should be retained as much as possible to maintain the blood supply to the fracture end.

The periosteum is very important and needs to be protected. Eating more high-quality protein can promote the proliferation of the periosteum.
