The secretion of thyroid hormone is a dynamic process, and its value is always fluctuating. However, once it exceeds or is significantly lower than the normal range, it means that there is a problem with the thyroid gland. High thyroid hormone levels are also known as hyperthyroidism. The harm of this disease is actually mainly aimed at the patient's joints and bones. For example, when the disease occurs, it will cause bone pain or even bone brittleness. The main causes of high thyroid hormone levels are long-term calcium deficiency and tumorous changes of the thyroid gland itself. Hyperparathyroidism is excessive secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH) by the parathyroid glands. Bone pain, fractures and urinary stones are common diseases that plague people's lives, and one of the important causes of the above-mentioned diseases is hyperparathyroidism. Misdiagnosis and mistreatment due to insufficient understanding of hyperparathyroidism are common, which not only wastes patients' energy and financial resources, seriously affects their quality of life, but can also lead to irreversible organ damage or even death. Causes of Disease 1. The parathyroid gland itself has lesions, such as excessive proliferation, tumor change or even cancer, which is medically called primary hyperparathyroidism; 2. Due to other diseases in the body, such as long-term vitamin D deficiency, intestinal absorption disorders or renal insufficiency, blood calcium is lower than normal, and the parathyroid gland needs to increase the secretion of parathyroid hormone to raise the blood calcium level. Therefore, it can be considered as compensatory hyperparathyroidism, which is called secondary hyperparathyroidism. 3 On the basis of long-term secondary hyperthyroidism, the parathyroid glands undergo tumorous changes, which is called tertiary hyperparathyroidism. There is another situation where the parathyroid gland itself does not have the above-mentioned lesions, but because other diseased organs in the body secrete substances similar to parathyroid hormone, its manifestations are largely the same as excessive secretion of parathyroid hormone. This is medically called pseudohyperparathyroidism, and it is not true hyperparathyroidism. Disease hazards Bone pain: When the parathyroid gland is hyperfunctioning, bone absorption is aggravated, causing osteoporosis to occur earlier, faster, and more seriously. Basically, there are symptoms of bone pain in varying degrees, especially in the waist and legs. In mild cases, it is easy to get tired, and in severe cases, it is difficult to walk or even unable to stand. X-ray or CT examinations often show obvious osteoporosis and even obvious bone destruction, which resembles a bone tumor. Some patients are even mistakenly given surgical treatment for this reason. Fractures: Long-term hyperparathyroidism not only aggravates osteoporosis, but also can cause osteitis fibrosa. Such patients often have obvious stature shortening, limb deformities, etc. Patients with this disease may suffer fractures during slight exercise or collision, which is medically known as pathological fractures. If it occurs in the vertebral body, there is a risk of paralysis. |
