How to relieve vomiting after chemotherapy in osteosarcoma patients

Osteosarcoma patients often experience gastrointestinal symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea during chemotherapy. Severe vomiting is the most unbearable complication for patients. While closely observing the changes in the condition, effective measures should be taken to prevent or relieve severe vomiting.

1. Scientific diet: During chemotherapy, you should pay attention to diet adjustment, eat small meals frequently, avoid fasting or bloating, and avoid eating too sweet or greasy food; you can eat more protein, low-fat, non-irritating and easily digestible food. Drinking light, cold beverages and eating sour and salty foods can alleviate symptoms.

2. Record the amount and nature of vomit: After vomiting, you should rinse your mouth and record the amount and nature of the vomit. If necessary, keep a small amount of vomit for laboratory examination.

3. Rational use of antiemetic drugs: routine treatment should be performed before chemotherapy. Antiemetic drugs such as ondansetron and ramosetron can be routinely given half an hour before chemotherapy. They can also be used when vomiting occurs, but care should be taken to avoid mixing them with other drugs as much as possible. Side effects may occur when sodium bicarbonate is used.

4. Exercise appropriately to divert attention: Learn to divert attention, such as listening to music, watching TV or talking to others. If you feel nauseous, you should relax your body and take deep breaths slowly.

5. Choose the correct sleeping position: If vomiting is severe, you should choose the correct sleeping position. You can choose to sleep on your side to prevent vomitus from being accidentally inhaled into the trachea.

6. Avoid eating before chemotherapy: Avoid eating within 2 hours before chemotherapy to prevent vomiting.
