How to care for the wound after uterine fibroid surgery

My mother and I have had uterine fibroids for several years. We had laparoscopic surgery on the navel. Less than three years after the surgery, the wound recurred. We went to the hospital for wound cleaning. Over the past year, the wound has often ooze yellow liquid every month or so. The amount is not much, but it heals on its own every time. Why doesn't the wound heal? How should we care for it after the surgery?

Postoperative infection is one of the common complications of uterine fibroid surgery. Usually, the laparoscopic wound is one centimeter long at the navel, and there are two 0.5-centimeter wounds on the lower abdomen. After the operation, the one-centimeter wound is usually simply sutured.

So how should we care for wounds after surgery?

1. For patients who use non-absorbable sutures, the sutures should be removed seven days after the operation. If sutures are used with absorbable sutures, there is no need to remove the sutures.

2. Keep the wound clean and dry. Wait until the wound is completely healed (about ten days) before showering or getting it wet.

3. Pay attention to whether the wound is red, swollen, hot or painful every day to prevent infection and inflammation.

4. Avoid riding horses, riding bicycles, and sitting for long periods of time to prevent pelvic congestion and postoperative discomfort. Avoid lifting objects weighing more than five kilograms or activities that increase the burden on the abdomen.

5. If the wound is not infected after two months, you can gradually increase the amount of exercise according to your personal physical strength and constitution to reduce future discomfort caused by the temporary reduction of pelvic support.
