What is the recurrence rate of breast-conserving surgery for breast cancer

Breast-conserving surgery for breast cancer accounts for about 30% of breast cancer surgeries in my country. Breast-conserving surgery for breast cancer has the same clinical efficacy as modified treatment surgery for breast cancer. However, there are certain differences between breast-conserving surgery for breast cancer and mastectomy. Compared with total mastectomy for breast cancer, the postoperative recurrence rate may increase by about 2%-5%, but there is basically no difference in clinical effect. Patients who can protect their breasts are also encouraged. If they also require breast protection, they can choose to protect their breasts, which has relatively less trauma and psychological impact on patients.

Is breast-conserving treatment effective for early-stage breast cancer?

If patients with early breast cancer do not have contraindications to breast conservation surgery, such as diffuse lesions, history of radiotherapy, large tumor volume, and proximity to the nipple, it is recommended that patients undergo breast conservation surgery, and the patient's prognosis is generally good. The advantages of breast conservation surgery for early breast cancer mainly include: 1. The tumor can be removed; 2. It will not affect the appearance of the breast; 3. It can restore the confidence of female patients. However, due to certain biological laws of breast cancer, small lesions remaining in the body may cause breast cancer to recur under the influence of external factors.

Breast cancer conserving surgery process

The breast-conserving surgery process for breast cancer mainly includes: 1. Removal of all defined malignant masses on the breast; 2. Resection of the breast mass with an edge of about 1mm-1cm tissue removed from the edge of the tumor bed to take specimens from 9 directions for pathological biopsy. If no cancer cells are found, the breast conservation surgery is considered successful; 3. Some patients with large breast masses will have a deviation in breast appearance after the removal of the mass, and need to transfer and repair the breast and adjust the appearance of the breast. The risks of breast conservation surgery mainly include anesthesia risks and residual risks of the breast tumor itself.
