Principles of prevention of esophageal cancer in my country

The primary prevention of disease is also called etiological prevention, which includes measures for healthy individuals and the public as a whole. Given my country's current national conditions, medical level and public health physicians, the primary prevention of many diseases is not good enough, and we can only focus on secondary and tertiary prevention.

The prevention of esophageal cancer has been well implemented. my country began research on the prevention and treatment of esophageal cancer in the 1950s, and established prevention and treatment research sites in rural areas with high incidence. Education and esophageal cytology diagnostic methods were used to conduct surveys of people in high-incidence areas in order to detect and treat the disease early and improve the cure rate. In the late 1980s, vitamins and Chinese herbal medicines were used for chemical treatment prevention and population intervention trials.

Specific measures include: ① Etiological prevention: improving drinking water (reducing nitrosamines and other harmful substances in water), preventing mold and detoxifying, changing bad living habits, applying chemical drugs (nitrosamine blockers), etc.; ② Pathogenic prevention: applying preventive drugs (retinoic acid compounds, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, etc.), actively treating esophageal epithelial hyperplasia, dealing with esophagitis, esophageal polyps, esophageal diverticulum and other precancerous lesions; ③ Vigorously carry out cancer prevention publicity and education, popularize anti-cancer knowledge, and conduct censuses and screening among people in high-incidence areas.
