There are three main reasons why non-smokers get lung cancer

For most people, the cause of lung cancer is related to smoking. This is indeed one of the causes of most lung cancer in modern times. However, the chance of non-smokers getting lung cancer is also very high. These causes of lung cancer are related to many factors.

1. Air pollution: The incidence of lung cancer is high in industrially developed countries, higher in cities than in rural areas, and higher in factory and mining areas than in residential areas. The main cause of lung cancer is due to the pollution of the atmosphere by harmful substances such as benzopyrene, a carcinogenic hydrocarbons, produced by the combustion of oil, coal, and internal combustion engines in industrial and transportation-developed areas and by asphalt road dust.

2. Internal factors of the human body: such as family heredity, reduced immune function, metabolic activity, endocrine dysfunction, etc. may also play a certain role in the cause of lung cancer.

3. Chronic lung diseases: such as tuberculosis, silicosis, and pneumoconiosis can all be causes of lung cancer. The incidence of cancer in these cases is higher than that of normal people. In addition, chronic inflammation of the lung bronchus and pulmonary fibrosis scar lesions may cause squamous metaplasia or hyperplasia during the healing process. On this basis, some cases may develop into cancer.

Through the study of the causes of lung cancer, it was found that the incidence of lung cancer is also largely occupational. It is generally recognized that long-term exposure to substances that can be the cause of lung cancer mainly includes radioactive substances such as uranium, radium and their derivatives, carcinogenic hydrocarbons, arsenic, chromium, nickel, copper, tin, iron, petroleum, asbestos, mustard gas, etc.
