Beware of possible early symptoms of skin cancer in the elderly

Although it is also cancer, the early symptoms of skin cancer are relatively easy to detect. However, for the elderly, due to their poor physical fitness, their skin often appears rough and dry, which is similar to the early symptoms of skin cancer and is easily overlooked. The elderly are also common victims of skin cancer.

Generally speaking, the skin of the elderly may have some early symptoms of skin cancer, among which senile keratoma and leukoplakia are the most common. There are also some chronic skin diseases, such as keloids after burns or trauma, chronic ulcers that do not heal for many years, chronic dermatitis, senile skin warts, chronic fistulas or sinus tracts, radiation ulcers, etc. If these lesions are treated with formal treatment, they will increase in size, or ulcerate, harden, thicken, deepen in pigmentation, hyperkeratinize, and even bleed. At this time, you should be alert to the possibility of skin cancer.

Both basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma develop on areas of the body that are exposed to the sun, such as the head, face, neck, hands, and arms. You can also develop skin cancer on other parts of the body. Actinic keratosis is characterized by rough, red or brown, scaly patches on the skin. Actinic keratosis is also called a precancer because it can turn into squamous cell carcinoma. Like skin cancer, actinic keratosis often develops on areas that are exposed to the sun, but it can also develop on other parts of the body. Changes on your skin are not necessarily early signs of skin cancer. But if these symptoms last for more than two weeks, it's best to see a doctor. Don't wait until these areas become painful before you see a doctor, because skin cancer is painless in its early stages.

Early symptoms of skin cancer may also appear in some young people, which is related to long-term exposure to ultraviolet rays. With the development of science and technology in modern society and the emergence of various new things, some carcinogens have gradually appeared. Special attention should be paid to the early symptoms of skin cancer.
