Patients with recurrent ovarian cancer should actively undergo surgery to improve survival rate

Many ovarian cancer patients will use ovarian cancer surgery for treatment in the early stage, but due to various reasons, the surgical treatment is not thorough and recurrent ovarian cancer will occur. Many patients do not know how to use effective treatment when recurrent ovarian cancer occurs. In fact, patients with recurrent ovarian cancer should actively undergo surgery to completely eradicate ovarian cancer if their health conditions allow.

A retrospective analysis of the clinical data of 38 cases of recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer treated in the past 10 years recently concluded that reoperation and chemotherapy for recurrent ovarian cancer can further improve the survival rate of patients.

Among the primary malignant tumors of the ovary, 60.0% to 90.0% are epithelial cancers. After the initial surgery and chemotherapy, they are clinically cured, but 85.0% of the cases still relapse in the short and long term. Among these 38 cases of recurrent ovarian cancer, 20 cases underwent relaparotomy to explore the recurrence of tumor cells and reduce the surgery, 9 cases were treated with chemotherapy alone because of fear of surgery, and the other 9 cases used Chinese medicine or gave up treatment. The results showed that the 2-5 year survival rates of the 20 cases after reoperation were 69.8%, 52.4%, 42.7% and 26.4%, respectively; the 2-5 year survival rates of the 9 cases who received chemotherapy alone were 68.9%, 13.8%, 8.7% and 6.9%, respectively, and there was a significant difference in the 5-year survival rate between reoperation and chemotherapy alone (P<0.01); the 2-5 year survival rates of the 9 cases who used Chinese medicine for anticancer or gave up treatment were 29.4%, 18.9%, 16.8% and 2.9%, respectively, which were significantly different from the 5-year survival rate of those who underwent reoperation.

It is not difficult to see from the above statistical results that the best treatment for recurrent ovarian cancer is timely ovarian cancer surgery, which is the only way to thoroughly and effectively treat recurrent ovarian cancer.
