What are the causes of pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer is a malignant tumor that occurs in the pancreas. It is characterized by high malignancy, rapid progression, and extremely poor prognosis. Pancreatic cancer often takes only a few months from the onset of early symptoms to the late stage and even the death of the patient. This makes it very difficult to detect and treat pancreatic cancer in its early stages. Therefore, it is very important to understand the causes of pancreatic cancer and prevent it.

There are three main causes of pancreatic cancer:

1. Drinking

Drinking is a common cause of pancreatic cancer. The incidence of pancreatic cancer varies among different races. Studies on the relationship between drinking and the incidence of pancreatic cancer in black and white Americans show that compared with whites, black male heavy drinkers and female moderate drinkers have a higher incidence.

2. Smoking

A large number of studies have shown that smoking is also one of the causes of pancreatic cancer. Possible mechanisms of smoking causing pancreatic cancer: ① Smoking promotes the secretion of tobacco-specific N-nitrite, a carcinogen, into the bile duct, which then flows back into the pancreatic duct; ② The specific effect of tobacco-specific N-nitrite on organs can flow into the pancreas with the blood; ③ Smoking increases blood lipid levels and promotes pancreatic cancer. Smokers may be prone to cancer due to low cell methylation levels.

3. Diabetes

Experimental studies have shown that insulin can promote the growth of pancreatic cancer cells in vitro or in vivo; high concentrations of insulin can activate the insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor, producing a growth-promoting effect including changes in cell cycle progression.

The above is an introduction to the causes of pancreatic cancer. By understanding the causes of pancreatic cancer, we hope to start from the root and actively prevent the occurrence of pancreatic cancer.
