Can patients with advanced lung cancer still be treated?

Many people generally believe that if you have cancer, you can only wait for death to come. In fact, it is not the case that if you have advanced lung cancer, you can only face death. In fact, with reasonable treatment, good care, and the patient's tenacious confidence, miracles can still happen in the treatment of advanced lung cancer.

About one-third of patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer can be cured with surgery alone. This rate is much lower than the cure rate for patients with small cell lung cancer - five percentage points lower. In most patients with incurable lung cancer, survival ranges from a few months to a few years, depending on how far the lung cancer has spread, the patient's general condition, his or her response to treatment, and the effectiveness of the treatment plan.

After treatment is completed, any chemical reactions may occur, and lung cancer patients still need to remain under the supervision of medical staff because the cancer may recur. Follow-up visits should be conducted regularly, once every one to three months in the first one or two years. The frequency of follow-up visits mainly depends on the condition of the lung cancer patient and his condition.

At each follow-up visit, lung cancer patients must undergo a full-body examination, a chest X-ray every few months, a chest CT scan and a bone scan every year. The treatment of recurrent disease depends on the period and extent of recurrence. Many patients are treated with the chemotherapy mentioned above.

Radiation therapy may play a role in treating painful and symptomatic areas where the cancer has spread. If a lung cancer patient experiences pain, there are many pain medications that can help relieve the pain.
