Sublingual temperature is a common method of measuring body temperature. It is relatively simple to measure body temperature. Just place the probe of the thermometer under the base of the tongue and press it down. In addition to the sublingual temperature measurement method, there are two more common temperature measurement methods. The most common one is the axillary mercury thermometer measurement. There is also a rectal temperature measurement method. Let's take a look at this aspect. How to measure sublingual temperature Choose any one of the two lingual sacs under the tongue, place the thermometer probe near the root of the tongue, keep the probe in good contact with the tissue, close your mouth, and breathe evenly through your nose. This can effectively prevent the incoming and outgoing air from affecting the measurement results. How to measure a child's temperature correctly? (1) Correct measurement of body temperature requires that the child be emotionally stable. Before measuring the temperature, you need to communicate with the child and proceed to the next step only after obtaining the child's cooperation. Many parents are very anxious and casually put the thermometer under their children's armpits and press it down forcefully. This is a very cruel thing for children. The child has no idea what he is doing and will have many questions about why he is always being pressured by his parents. He will be very uncooperative and may even start crying. (2) After calming the child, gently place the thermometer under the child's armpit and wait quietly for five minutes. You can sing nursery rhymes to the child or tell the child some stories to make the child feel that time is passing faster. The most important thing is to divert the child's attention and make the child feel that measuring the temperature is not painful. (3) After measuring the body temperature, you need to tell your child what the temperature is and whether he or she needs to see a doctor or drink more water. This way, the child will actively cooperate with the treatment. Other methods of measuring body temperature ●Axillary measurement: (For infants and young children. From a medical point of view, there will be a slight error in the temperature measurement under the armpit, and the measurement time needs to be extended accordingly) Ensure that the armpit is dry and clean. Place the thermometer in your armpit with the probe pointing upward, closing your upper arm to prevent air from entering and to secure the thermometer so it does not move. ● Rectal measurement: (Recommended for very small babies who breathe through the mouth) Lubricate the thermometer with a water-soluble lubricant before use. The user lies on his side with his knees slightly bent. If it is a baby, please let the baby lie prone with his legs hanging down. You can clamp them with your knees or place them on the edge of the bed. Gently slide the thermometer (no more than 1/2 inch long) into the anus. During the measurement process, stabilize the thermometer and do not move it arbitrarily. Note that once the thermometer is used for rectal measurement, it should not be used for oral measurement. |
