Can tomatoes lower blood sugar?

Can tomatoes lower blood sugar?

Tomato is a food that many people like to eat, and it is also one of the more nutritious foods. Tomatoes contain a lot of nutrients, especially lycopene. This substance can help prevent and treat hyperglycemia, so patients with high blood sugar or diabetes can eat more tomatoes. In addition, tomatoes have many other benefits.

1. Eat tomatoes to prevent diabetes

The latest experiments have found that a diet rich in lycopene can help people reduce body fat and waist circumference, thereby preventing diabetes.

Tomatoes are relatively healthier vegetables. They contain a lot of vitamin C, with 20-30 mg of vitamin C in every 100 grams of tomatoes. Vitamin C can enhance the body's resistance, prevent and treat scurvy, and resist infection. Other studies have shown that lycopene can help prevent obesity-related diseases such as type 2 diabetes.

2. Tomatoes have the effect of lowering blood lipids and blood pressure

Tomatoes are rich in vitamins A and C. Their acidity is due to citric acid and malic acid. Oral administration of tomato pectin can reduce the amount of cholesterol in the serum and liver of cholesterol-fed rats. Tomato juice can reduce high blood pressure and stimulate smooth muscles.

3. Tomatoes have anti-inflammatory effects

Tomatine has obvious anti-inflammatory effect in animal experiments. Intramuscular injection of 1-10 mg/kg or oral administration of 15-30 mg/kg to rats can significantly reduce ankle edema caused by carrageenan, and the effect is more obvious after adrenalectomy. Subcutaneous injection of 5-10 mg/kg for 7 days can inhibit the formation of granulation tissue. Subcutaneous injection of 10 mg/kg in mice can reduce capillary permeability.

4. Tomatoes have antifungal effects

Tomatine has antifungal properties. It can inhibit certain fungi that are pathogenic to plants or humans; but it is very ineffective against bacteria. Its antibacterial principle may be the formation of a certain sterol complex in the cell membrane of fungi. Its aglycone (tomatidine) has a very poor effect. Tomatoes, originally extracted from tomatoes, are mixed with rutin, especially its aglycone quercetin; quercetin can antagonize the antibacterial effect of tomatidine, so the antifungal effect of tomatoes is not strong.
