Total bilirubin 40

Total bilirubin 40

Total bilirubin is mainly composed of direct bilirubin and indirect bilirubin, and is an important indicator for testing liver function. Some people, when undergoing liver function tests, conclude that their total bilirubin is 40. This indicator is not enough to make the situation clear. It is also necessary to identify whether the cause is high direct bilirubin or high indirect bilirubin. Only after a comprehensive analysis can the situation be clarified.

Total bilirubin is the sum of direct bilirubin and indirect bilirubin. Elevated total bilirubin is commonly known as jaundice. Total bilirubin is mainly used to diagnose whether there is liver disease or bile duct abnormalities. The normal value of total bilirubin is between 3.4 and 20.5 μmol/L. 17.1-34.2 μmol/L can be regarded as latent jaundice; 34.2-170 μmol/L is mild jaundice; 170-340 μmol/L is moderate jaundice; and greater than 340 μmol/L is severe jaundice.

Your problem is not serious. The bilirubin is just a little high. First, you need to rule out factors such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, fatty liver, and alcoholic liver. Women generally don't have alcoholic liver. Hepatitis B and hepatitis C can be ruled out through blood tests, and fatty liver can be ruled out through B-ultrasound examination. Maybe none of these will be a problem. Sometimes poor excretion of the intrahepatic bile duct or problems with the gallbladder can also cause a slight increase in bilirubin. Check the problems mentioned above and don't worry about it if there are no major abnormalities. This is a very minor problem. With regular checkups, it may recover on its own.

Diet

In addition to receiving relevant treatment in the hospital, a good diet is also very important for high total bilirubin. The diet should be light, and try not to eat too greasy food, spicy food, or moldy food. You can eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, and eat more liver-protecting foods, such as: eat more seafood, mushrooms, sesame seeds, walnuts, dates, lean meat and other foods.
