What are the side effects of excessive massage

Many people choose to get a massage when they have muscle stiffness or other physical conditions, because massage mainly allows the masseur to press along the body's meridians through special techniques, so massage can effectively relieve muscle stiffness and fatigue. Therefore, in modern society, more and more people like to get massages, but if a person massages excessively, what side effects will it have on his body?

1. Side effects of excessive massage

1. Syncope

Fainting during massage may be caused by the patient being too nervous, weak, tired or hungry, or by the massage being too heavy or lasting too long. Once the patient faints, the massage should be stopped immediately. The patient should be laid flat in a well-ventilated place with the head kept low. After rest, the patient will generally recover naturally. If the patient is severely fainted, you can use methods such as pinching the Ren Zhong point, holding the Jianjing point, Hegu point, and pressing the Yongquan point to revive him/her, and you can also use acupuncture and other methods in combination. If the syncope is caused by hypoglycemia, the patient can be given some sugar water to drink.

2. Broken skin

When using the rubbing method, improper operation may sometimes cause the patient's skin to be damaged. At this time, some surgical treatment should be performed, and operations on the damaged area should be avoided to prevent infection. When not using the rubbing method, do not rub hard.

3. Subcutaneous hemorrhage

Massage generally does not cause subcutaneous bleeding. If the patient's local skin appears cyanotic, it may be because the massage technique is too heavy or the patient has a disease that is prone to bleeding. If subcutaneous bleeding occurs, massage should be stopped immediately. The bleeding will usually stop on its own. After 2-3 days, local massage can be performed or wet compress can be used to gradually eliminate the bleeding.

2. Precautions before and after massage

1. Relax your body and mind during massage

When doing massage, you should devote your whole body and mind to it.

2. The technique should be correct and the acupoints should be accurate.

When doing massage, you should be proficient in the commonly used acupoints and basic operating techniques.

3. Use appropriate force

If you use too little force, the effect will not be good. If you use too much force, you may damage the skin.

4. Take it step by step and persevere

During massage, one should not rush for quick results, but should gradually increase the frequency and intensity of massage, as well as the number of massage points. At the same time, since health care or treatment of chronic diseases through massage cannot be achieved overnight, it takes time to be effective. Therefore, when doing massage, you must have enough patience and confidence.
