Acute severe poisoning can be diagnosed as severe poisoning if, in addition to the above symptoms, one of the following conditions occurs: (1) pulmonary edema; (2) coma; (3) respiratory paralysis; (4) cerebral edema. The activity of whole blood choline esterase is generally below 30%. Delayed neuropathy may occur 2 to 3 weeks after the symptoms of acute severe poisoning disappear. In some cases, sensory and motor peripheral neuropathy may occur, and neuro-electromyography examination may show neurogenic damage.
