Baby's skin hemangioma?

Baby's skin hemangioma?

It is a very common phenomenon for babies to have skin hemangiomas in daily life, and the hemangiomas will gradually grow as the baby grows. In fact, parents do not need to worry too much when babies have this situation. Most hemangiomas will gradually subside, but if they do not subside, they are basically benign hemangiomas that can be removed through surgery.

What harm may hemangioma cause?

Since hemangiomas often occur on the face and neck, their main impact on the human body is appearance.

The second is the occurrence of complications, including hemangioma rupture, bleeding, ulceration, ulcer formation and secondary infection during the peak proliferative period; tumor enlargement causes compression of tissues and organs, such as: hemangioma of the eyelid can cause amblyopia or eye vision development disorder; occurrence in the respiratory tract can cause breathing difficulties and even endanger life; hemangioma of the external auditory canal can cause conductive deafness; hemangioma compression can lead to nasal deviation, skull depression, and enlargement of the orbital area.

Do I need treatment for a hemangioma?

When parents see a red lump, they will usually be worried and wonder whether it should be treated. However, generally speaking, after 12 months of age, most hemangiomas in newborns will enter a regressing period, which can last for more than 5 years.

More than 50% of lesions completely regress by the age of 5 years, more than 70% of lesions completely regress by the age of 7 years, and the latest can be as late as 12 years old. So generally when you take your child to the hospital, the doctor will say, "Don't worry, it will gradually disappear when the baby is five or six years old."

How to treat hemangioma?

Treatments for hemangiomas include drug therapy, laser therapy, and traditional surgical resection. For some special types of hemangiomas, interventional embolization therapy, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy may also be used.

Drug treatment:

Superficial infantile hemangiomas can be treated with topical medications under the guidance of a doctor. These topical medications include topical preparations of propranolol, timolol eye drops or timolol gel preparations. Early stage patients can achieve better results.

Deep and mixed infantile hemangiomas can be treated with oral propranolol. Oral corticosteroids, propranolol, and interferon can also be used for treatment.

Laser treatment:

Superficial hemangiomas of the skin can also be treated with laser if topical medications are ineffective.

Intratumoral injection therapy:

Subcutaneous hemangiomas can be treated with hormones and pingyangmycin injections.

Surgical Resection:

If drug treatment is ineffective or more serious complications occur, the lesion can be removed.

Isotope application:

It has a certain therapeutic effect on hemangiomas, but in the later stages, various skin sequelae such as skin atrophy, contracture, pigmentation or loss, vasodilation, scars, etc. may occur, and growth and development may be affected. Therefore, this treatment method should be avoided in infants and young children.

In short, if you find a hemangioma in your baby, parents don’t need to worry too much, but they still need to pay attention, observe and record its changes. Once the above-mentioned conditions requiring treatment occur, you should promptly seek diagnosis, treatment and evaluation from a pediatrician.
