How to read the results of drug sensitivity test

Diseases are very common in people's daily lives, and many diseases require infusion or medication treatment. During infusion treatment, a drug allergy test will be conducted to detect whether the patient has an allergic reaction to the drug. However, many people do not know how to view the results of this test after doing it, and do not know which one is an allergic reaction. So, what do you think of the results of the drug sensitivity test?

First, how do you interpret the results of the drug sensitivity test? Drug sensitivity test is referred to as drug sensitivity test (or drug resistance test). Microbiological tests are designed to understand the sensitivity (or tolerance) of pathogenic microorganisms to various antibiotics in order to guide the rational selection of antibiotics in clinical practice. If an antibiotic can inhibit and kill pathogenic bacteria at a very small dose, the pathogen is said to be "sensitive" to the antibiotic. On the contrary, it is called "insensitivity" or "resistance". In order to understand which antibiotics the pathogens are sensitive to, use the drugs rationally and reduce blindness, drug sensitivity tests are often performed.

Second, the common method: take a specimen containing pathogenic bacteria from the patient's infected area, inoculate it on an appropriate culture medium, and culture it under certain conditions; at the same time, stick paper pieces with a certain amount of various antibiotics on the surface of the culture medium (or use a stainless steel ring with a certain amount of antibiotic solution inside), and observe the results after a certain period of culture. Since pathogenic bacteria have different sensitivities to various antibiotics, "empty circles" of varying sizes appear around the drug paper to inhibit the growth of pathogens, which are called inhibition circles. The size of the inhibition zone is directly proportional to the sensitivity of the pathogenic bacteria to various antibiotics. Therefore, antibiotics can be selected in a targeted manner based on the test results. In recent years, automated drug sensitivity testing instruments have been introduced, making the test faster and more accurate. At present, the abuse of antibiotics has led to an increase in drug-resistant bacteria. Even due to long-term and large-scale use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, normal microorganisms in the body are killed and the mutual restraint of microorganisms is lost, so that some rare or common non-pathogenic bacteria can multiply in large numbers, causing the so-called "secondary infection" to occur frequently, creating artificial difficulties in treatment. Therefore, it is very important to advocate the use of drug sensitivity tests and adhere to rational use of drugs.

How to read the results of the drug sensitivity test? The nurse will select a certain part of the skin on your arm and inject a small amount of medicine. After waiting for a while, if you are not allergic to the drug, there will be no phenomenon at the injection site. If you are allergic to this drug, you may develop a rash at the injection site and in severe cases, you may have difficulty breathing. This medicine can only be used if you are not allergic to it.
