The disadvantages of fumigating your nose with hot water

Autumn and winter are both very dry seasons and many people are prone to nosebleeds or rhinitis symptoms. In order to alleviate this situation, people begin to look for various ways to make their nasal cavity more moist, thereby reducing nosebleeds. Some people choose to fumigate their noses with hot water, thinking that this can moisten the nasal cavity, but doctors do not actually do this. So, what are the disadvantages of fumigating your nose with hot water?

The nasal hairs in the human nasal cavity have a filtering and cleaning function, which can block dust and other foreign matter from entering the respiratory tract with the air. In the windy and dry autumn, dust particles accumulate in the nasal cavity and easily form nasal crusts. At this time, it is best not to pick your nose with your fingers, so as not to damage the blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, causing them to rupture and bleed, or even cause inflammation. If nasal crust is formed, you can press one nostril and blow gently with the other nostril; if the nasal crust is hard, you can apply one or two drops of sesame oil or olive oil before blowing.

The temperature in autumn is changeable, with a large temperature difference between morning, evening and noon. In order to adapt to the sudden changes in external temperature, the capillaries in the nose will expand and contract. Coupled with the dry climate, the nasal mucosa will become dry and fragile, and the capillaries will easily be injured and bleed. Director Ma said that, in fact, 80%-90% of people are bleeding in the front of the nasal cavity at this time, which is not very dangerous and can be blocked with cotton balls at home. If the bleeding does not stop, you should go to the hospital and let the doctor find the specific bleeding point and help stop the bleeding.

Here are some tips to relieve the symptoms of dry nasal cavity: you can put one or two drops of oily substances in the nasal cavity, such as sesame oil, peppermint oil or olive oil; you can also use a cotton swab dipped in saline solution to rinse the nasal cavity, and the water temperature should reach human body temperature; or pour a cup of hot water and let the steam fumigate the nasal cavity for about 5-10 minutes.

In daily life, if you want to keep your nasal cavity moist, you should pay attention to maintaining the air humidity in the room; in your diet, you can add more fruits and vegetables such as white radish, tomato, lotus root, white fungus, and pear.
