What is septicemia_What is septicemia

Sepsis is a very serious disease, but most people don’t know much about it. In fact, sepsis requires active treatment, and during treatment you also need to pay attention to your diet. Whether it’s in diet or in life, you need to do a good job of prevention and care, maintain a good attitude, and do proper exercise to enhance your immunity.

What is sepsis?

Sepsis is a systemic infection caused by pathogenic bacteria invading the blood circulation, growing and multiplying therein, and producing toxins. It is prone to occur when the body's resistance is reduced. The main clinical manifestations are chills, high fever, symptoms of sepsis, rash, joint pain, hepatosplenomegaly, septic shock, migratory lesions, etc. Most of them are acute, with severe conditions and poor prognosis. It is now further believed that sepsis is a series of chain reactions caused by pathogenic bacteria and their toxins and metabolites entering the bloodstream and activating and releasing inflammatory mediators.

This process can clinically lead to dysfunction and failure of multiple organs throughout the body. This means that it not only sees the existence of pathogenic bacteria in the body, but also pays attention to the body's immune response and its results. It is now known that inflammatory mediators include complement components, arachidonic acid metabolites, tumor factor (TNF), interleukin (IL-s), interferon (IF-a), platelet activating factor (PAF), macrophage proinflammatory cytokine (MPIC), proteases, thromboxanes and oxygen free radicals.

Early symptoms of sepsis

Symptoms of infection and poisoning

In the early stages of sepsis, patients will experience symptoms of infection and poisoning. Patients will feel very cold at one moment, and feel hot all over at another moment, and may even have a fever! Such repeated situations will make patients feel very upset, and their heart rate will also increase! If the above situations occur, you may need to go to the hospital for an examination!

Skin damage

Generally, when children suffer from sepsis, bruises, red spots, skin infections, and rashes will inexplicably appear on their bodies. They most commonly appear on the hands and feet, and may even hide in the mouth. Those hidden in the mouth are more difficult to detect, but for those on the hands and feet, parents are advised to observe their children's hands and feet more often to see if there are red spots, etc. This is a very important symptom of sepsis in the early stages.

Gastrointestinal discomfort

When patients develop sepsis, in addition to rashes on their hands and feet, they will also experience gastrointestinal discomfort. Patients often experience vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. In severe cases, they may even have blood in their stool or vomit blood! These are very obvious symptoms of sepsis! If they are not discovered, it is easy to miss the best time for treatment!

How to prevent sepsis

1. Control the source of infection

For existing boils, do not squeeze or cut them open prematurely to avoid the spread of bacteria and the formation of sepsis. Try to avoid damage to the skin and mucous membranes; promptly detect and treat infected lesions; strictly follow aseptic requirements for all diagnostic and treatment operations; rationally use cortical hormones and broad-spectrum antibiotics, and closely observe during use, paying special attention to fungal infections of the digestive tract, urinary tract, and respiratory tract.

2. Protect vulnerable groups

Patients at high risk of sepsis should be closely monitored for changes in their condition, and if signs of sepsis or suspected illness occur, they should be actively examined and decisively treated. Do a good job in disinfection and isolation of nurseries, operating rooms, surgical wards and immunocompromised patients to prevent cross infection caused by pathogenic bacteria.
