What’s more important is that silver jewelry is not as expensive as gold jewelry. Many people can afford it, and it is also more elegant to wear. However, many people find that the silver jewelry they wear is rusted. What should they do?

Sterling silver jewelry has gradually become the favorite choice of modern fashionable women. However, some people found that the silver jewelry they were wearing, which was originally bright silver-white, had turned into "black gold". Therefore, it is necessary to master the appropriate methods to remove the black rust on silver jewelry and make the silver jewelry become silvery and bright again. Here are some methods to remove rust from silver jewelry in daily life.

Reasons for rusting of silver jewelry and methods for rust removal

The Principle of Rusting of Silver Jewelry

If you want to quickly and effectively remove the black rust on silver jewelry and restore the jewelry to its luster, you must first understand the principle of why silver turns black. Silver is an unstable element and easily reacts chemically with sulfur, causing it to turn black. Human sweat contains a lot of sulfur, which will react when it comes into contact with silver jewelry. Moreover, if people are in a polluted environment where there are more acidic gases, hydrogen sulfide, nitric oxide and other compounds in the air, it will also cause the silver jewelry to turn black. Furthermore, discoloration of silver jewelry may also be caused by a serious lack of ingredients. Even if the above situations are excluded, under normal circumstances, the surface of silver jewelry will oxidize after about half a year of wearing, and the color will become dull and lose its luster.

How to remove rust from silver jewelry

Wipe it with cotton dipped in white vinegar, the black silver sulfide will dissolve in the ester acid, and the silver jewelry will regain its luster.

Wiping with alcohol or sodium carbonate also works well.

First, clean the surface of the ornaments with detergent, then use sodium thiosulfate solution (prepared by adding 20 grams of sodium thiosulfate to 100 grams of water), and then rinse with clean water.

Use 1 part tartaric acid, 1 part alum and 10 parts salt, mix and heat until boiling, then immerse the jewelry in it; take out after 10 minutes, wash with water and wipe dry.

Washing the lens with ammonia or squeezing toothpaste onto a flannel cloth and wiping it can also restore its original luster.
