The harm of excessive formaldehyde to people

The harm of excessive formaldehyde to people

Formaldehyde is a toxic substance that can cause cancer, leukemia and other diseases. Nowadays, many furniture, decoration materials, fabrics, etc. contain formaldehyde. If the formaldehyde concentration is not very high, as long as ventilation is maintained and some methods are used to remove formaldehyde, the harm to people will not be very great. However, the formaldehyde concentration in some furniture and decorated houses seriously exceeds the standard, and the harm to people can be said to be huge. So what are the harms of formaldehyde exceeding the standard to people?

1. The harm of different concentrations of formaldehyde to humans

1. When the formaldehyde content is ≥ 0.08 mg/m3

Mild to severe wheezing

2. When the formaldehyde content is ≥ 0.1 mg/m3

People will feel obviously tired and unwell

3. When the formaldehyde content is ≥ 0.05 mg/m3

Your eyes will sting unbearably

4. When the formaldehyde content is ≥ 0.06 mg/m3

Sore throat and respiratory problems will appear

If the above data does not cause you to pay great attention, then when the formaldehyde content is ≥30 mg/cubic meter, the result will be death.

2. The harm of formaldehyde to humans

1. Irritation: Formaldehyde is a protoplasmic toxic substance that can combine with proteins. When inhaled in high concentrations, it can cause severe respiratory irritation and edema, eye irritation, headache... The irritation to the skin and mucous membranes should not be underestimated!

2. Some of our common allergies are also closely related to formaldehyde. Direct skin contact with formaldehyde can cause allergic dermatitis, pigmentation, and necrosis, while inhalation of high concentrations of formaldehyde can induce bronchial asthma.

However, the harm of formaldehyde is not limited to these "superficial" phenomena. High concentration of formaldehyde is also a genotoxic substance. Experimental animals may develop nasopharyngeal tumors if they inhale high concentrations in the laboratory.

3. If formaldehyde is inhaled for a long time, symptoms such as palpitations, insomnia, weight loss, memory loss and autonomic nervous system disorders will continue to occur. It is even more harmful to special groups of people: long-term inhalation by pregnant women may cause fetal malformation or even death, and long-term inhalation by men may cause sperm malformation and death!
