Taboos of kelp soup

1. Avoid drinking tea after drinking kelp soup: People should not drink tea immediately after drinking kelp soup (tea contains tannic acid), and should not eat sour fruits immediately (sour fruits contain plant acid). Because kelp is rich in iron, the above two foods will hinder the absorption of iron in the body.

2. Patients with hyperthyroidism cannot drink kelp soup: Patients with hyperthyroidism should not drink kelp soup because the iodine content in kelp is high and will aggravate the condition.

3. Pregnant women and breastfeeding women should not drink too much kelp soup: This is because the iodine in the kelp can enter the fetus and baby through the blood circulation and cause thyroid dysfunction.

4. Kelp cannot be soaked for a long time: Although kelp should be rinsed with water before eating, the time should not be too long. Generally, it is sufficient to soak it for about 6 hours. If the soaking time is too long, the nutrients in the kelp will dissolve in water and the nutritional value will be reduced.

6. People living in coastal areas with high iodine content should try to eat less kelp to prevent the occurrence of iodine excess diseases. In addition, excessive intake of kelp may lead to thyroid cancer.

To deal with the excessive heat in the summer, people in the south often use mung beans, kelp and a small amount of rock sugar to make a "liver-regulating and qi-resolving soup" - mung bean and kelp soup, which has the function of clearing away heat and relieving summer heat, clearing the liver and reducing fire. Mung beans are cool in nature and sweet in taste. They enter the spleen and stomach meridians. They have the functions of relieving heat and thirst, clearing away heat and detoxifying, and promoting diuresis and moisturizing the skin. They are an excellent product for removing fire and relieving fever in summer. The main ingredients are kelp (wash and soak), mung beans (soak in warm water), and the auxiliary ingredients are jujube, white fungus (soak in warm water), ginger slices, wolfberry, and rock sugar.

1). Wash and cut 200g fresh kelp into thin strips, blanch it in boiling water, remove it and drain the water;

2). Wash 30g rice, 60g mung beans and 6g tangerine peel separately;

3). Pour 1000 ml of water into the casserole, add rice, mung beans, kelp, and tangerine peel, and bring to a boil over high heat;

4). Cook over low heat until the mung beans bloom, then add rock sugar and serve. If you don’t like sweet soup, you can replace it with a small amount of salt.

Tips for making mung bean and kelp soup: If you don’t like sweets, you can use salt to season it.

Instructions for use

Rice: (Tang Dynasty) Meng Shen: "Japonica rice should not be eaten with horse meat, as it will cause tumors. It should not be eaten with Xanthium sibiricum, as it will cause sudden heart pain."

Tangerine peel: Tangerine peel should not be used together with Pinellia and Arisaema; it should not be used together with warm, fragrant and drying medicines.

Mung beans: Do not eat them with carp, otherwise it will cause jaundice and thirst.

Do not eat it with dog meat. Mung beans are cold in nature, while dog meat is hot in nature. They must not be eaten together, otherwise you will get poisoned.

People with cold constitution may have symptoms such as cold and weak limbs, cold pain in waist and legs, diarrhea and loose stools, etc. Eating mung beans will aggravate the symptoms of these people, and may even cause digestive system diseases such as diarrhea (dehydration in severe cases), joint and muscle pain caused by stagnation of qi and blood, chronic gastritis caused by cold stomach and weak spleen and stomach, etc.
