Feeling something at the base of tongue

Feeling something at the base of tongue

If you feel that there is something at the root of your tongue, it may be caused by lingual papillitis. At this time, it is best to go to a regular hospital for examination in time. You can go to the ENT department. If it is confirmed to be lingual papillitis, you can take some anti-inflammatory drugs, such as metronidazole or acetylspiramycin, and you can use some medical mouthwash to rinse your mouth. You should also emphasize maintenance at ordinary times.

Lingual papillitis

Lingual papillae: Nipples that form outward on the mucosa of the back of the tongue. Each papilla is centered on the connective tissue of the lamina propria and is covered with stratified squamous epithelium. Refers to the many small pink protrusions on the mucosa on the back of the tongue. According to their shapes, the lingual papillae can be divided into four types: filiform papillae, fungiform papillae, foliate papillae and circumflex papillae.

Filiform papillae are the most numerous; foliate papillae have tended to degenerate; although fungiform papillae and circumflex papillae are few in number, they have taste buds on them. The nipple-like protrusions on the back of the tongue are called lingual papillae. This papilla is composed of mucous membrane and contains abundant nerve endings, which are responsible for the sense of taste. There are different types of nipples, including circumvallate nipples, filiform nipples, fungiform nipples and foliate nipples.

Overview

Tongue: An organ made of skeletal muscle, located at the bottom of the mouth, with a mucous membrane on the surface covered with mucus. The muscles inside are arranged in three different directions, so it can move flexibly. In particular, the root of the frog tongue grows at the front end of the bottom of the mouth, while the tip of the tongue extends into the mouth, with a forked top, so that the tongue can be turned out of the mouth to catch sticky insects outside the mouth;

The "tongue" of fish cannot move because they have no muscles (such as carp); the tongue of reptiles is muscular, and the tongue of turtles and crocodiles cannot extend outward; the thin tongue of snakes and lizards can extend longer, with a forked tip, and they often swallow and spit out. When the tongue is retracted, the tip of the tongue enters the two sacs of the vomeronasal organ.

Because the inner wall of the vomeronasal organ has olfactory mucosa and branches of the olfactory nerves entering it, it can play a special role in monitoring the chemical properties of objects brought in by the tip of the tongue. In particular, the tongue of chameleons is extremely developed. It usually remains in the mouth, but can be quickly extended when hunting. The length of the tongue is almost as long as the body, and the tip of the tongue is rich in mucus, which can accurately catch insects. The functions of the mammalian tongue are the most complex. It can lick food, help sucking, stir and swallow, feel taste and general feeling, etc. In addition, the tongue of mammals can also assist in pronunciation.

Classification of lingual papillae by morphology and structure

There are 4 types according to their morphological structure. ①Filiform papillae. The largest amount, slender cone shape, superficial epithelial cells keratinized, evenly distributed on the tip and back of the tongue. ② Fungiform papillae. Located between the filiform papillae, they are small in number, mushroom-shaped, bright red in color, with mild keratinization in the superficial epithelium and often taste buds in the epithelium. ③Foliate papillae. Oblong, formed by several horizontal leaf-shaped mucosal folds, located on both sides of the tongue root, absent in ruminants; ④ Circumferential papillae. It is relatively large, with a taste groove surrounding the papilla. The epithelium is not keratinized, and taste buds are distributed in the epithelium on one side of the groove.
