The efficacy and function of thyme

The efficacy and function of thyme

Thunbergia odorifera is a plant with certain medicinal value and is widely used in medicine. There are many nicknames for thyme, such as sweet osmanthus, sweet osmanthus, etc., which are all the same plant. In summary, thyme has local anesthetic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-thyroid effects. Below, I will introduce the effects and functions of thyme in detail.

1. Local anesthetic effect

Osmanthus injection can be used as local infiltration anesthesia during major, medium and minor surgical operations. Osmanthus fragrans can also be used for surface anesthesia.

2. Antispasmodic effect

A nitrogen-free crystalline component extracted with petroleum ether has a significant antispasmodic effect on the isolated viscera of rats and can counteract the smooth muscle spasm caused by histamine and barium oxide, but has no blocking effect on the smooth muscle spasm caused by acetylcholine. Caryophyllene in the leaves of Osmanthus fragrans is one of the effective ingredients for treating chronic bronchitis in the elderly and has a certain anti-asthmatic effect.

3. Anti-inflammatory, anti-inflammatory and insecticidal effects

The compounds with a carbazole skeleton isolated from the stem bark of Murraya oleifera have selective anti-inflammatory properties. The acetone extract of Murraya aromatica leaves caused 100% mortality in third-instar Culex fotigens larvae at a concentration of 3% under experimental conditions.

4. Antithyroid Effect

Male rats (110-120 g) were injected with 20 μg of the sample of coumarin-7-methoxy-8-(1,2-hydroxy-3-methyl-3-butenyl) coumarin isolated from Murraya odorifera per 100 g of peanut oil preparation, which had a significant antithyroid effect compared with the control group.

5. Hypoglycemic Effect

Feeding rats with leaves of osmanthus fragrans and mustard can cause hypoglycemia because it significantly increases the activity of glycogen synthase, promotes glycogen synthesis, significantly reduces the activity of glycogen phospholipase and gluconeogenesis enzymes, reduces glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis, and thus increases liver glycogen content.

6. Antifungal Effect

It has a specific inhibitory effect on pathogenic fungi of humans from the same genus M. koneigii.

7. Relaxation of small intestinal smooth muscle

The crystalline component extracted with petroleum ether (60--80 C) can relax the isolated small intestinal smooth muscle of rats, antagonize the contraction caused by histamine, but have no blocking effect on the spasm caused by acetylcholine; it has no significant effect on the blood pressure and respiration of anesthetized dogs.
