Is ear plastic surgery dangerous? Ear plastic surgery is a very common facial cosmetic surgery. It is mainly used to correct different morphological deformities of the ear. In fact, there are many factors that lead to ear deformities, and no matter what the cause is, it may be congenital or acquired. Otoplasty can correct ear deformities. Otoplasty allows the ears to assume a normal, full appearance. External ear reconstruction is an ear plastic surgery and carries certain risks. It is only done in a regular plastic surgery hospital. Ear plastic surgery Since the shape and structure of the auricle are relatively complex and elastic, plastic surgery of the auricle, especially total ear reconstruction, is demanding and difficult, and it is difficult to achieve perfect results. However, in recent years, the use of tissue expanders has provided new technical means for total ear reconstruction. Common ear plastic surgery procedures include ear piercing, accessory ear removal, correction of enlarged earlobes, correction of earlobe adhesions, correction of protruding ears, correction of enlarged auricles, removal of preauricular fistulas and repair of auricle defects. Ears that protrude too far outward are commonly known as "protruding ears". Protruding ears are corrected by bringing the protruding ears closer to the head. Children's ears have developed to a level close to that of adults by the age of 4, so surgery is usually performed between the ages of 4 and 14. The earlier the surgery is done, the less teasing and psychological damage the child will suffer; but unless the child himself requests to change the shape of his ears, there is no need to force the child to undergo surgery. Protruding ears in adults can also be corrected surgically. Microtia generally refers to congenital maldevelopment of the auricle, often accompanied by external auditory canal atresia. Some patients also have maxillofacial malformations. The outer ear and middle ear are malformed, but the inner ear is basically normal, so only the air conduction part of the hearing is slightly affected, and the bone conduction part of the hearing is completely normal. Some microtia is caused by trauma or burns. Microtia may require reconstructive surgery of the ear. In order not to affect the normal psychological development and learning of children, the surgery is best completed before school so that children can have normal ears and go to school happily. Ear reconstruction is a complex surgery with many methods. The cartilage of the ear is usually made from autologous rib cartilage. The reconstructed ear is real, has blood circulation, feeling, and will grow with age. Costal cartilage is not a rib, but just a bit of cartilage at the front end of the rib. It will grow again after being cut and has no effect on body development. Currently, the more commonly used and more effective method is to use skin expansion to provide skin for reconstructing the ear. After the skin is expanded sufficiently, the auricle can be reconstructed using rib cartilage. |
