The most effective anti-snoring medicine

The most effective anti-snoring medicine

We all know that some people snore when they sleep, especially obese friends who snore frequently. However, frequent snoring is harmful to the body. We can learn to adjust it, and snoring will affect the rest of people around us. If we want to stop snoring, we can use sprays or oral medications to treat nasal congestion symptoms, and we should pay attention to oral hygiene and check for hypothyroidism.

1. What medicine is good for snoring?

Snoring medication should be based on the cause and symptomatic treatment:

1. If snoring is caused by rhinitis, you can use lotions, sprays, oral medications, etc. to relieve the symptoms of nasal congestion;

2. If snoring is caused by hypothyroidism, you need to go to an endocrinologist for targeted treatment of hypothyroidism;

3. If snoring is caused by myasthenia gravis, you can go to the neurology department and use antidepressant drugs for treatment under the guidance of a doctor.

2. Pathology of snoring

Any pronunciation requires the activity of various muscles in the oral cavity, nasal cavity and pharyngeal cavity. Sound will be produced when the airflow passes through cavities of different shapes formed by various muscles. When people speak, they rely on the airflow to hit the space between the vocal cords (two small muscles) in the throat to produce words. The lips, tongue, cheek and jaw muscles then work together to form cavities of various shapes, so that when the sound passes through, different initials and finals are produced, thus forming language. When people sleep, the muscles of the lips, tongue, cheeks and jaw cannot be randomly arranged to form various cavities, but there is always a large channel left - the throat (pharynx). If this channel becomes narrower and becomes a gap, the airflow will make a sound when passing through, which is snoring. Therefore, fat people, people with loose throat muscles, and people with sore throats are most likely to snore.

3. Harm of snoring

Disrupting other people’s sleep

People who snore do sleep more deeply and soundly. It is very worrying for an average person to sleep in the same room with a snorer at night: when the non-snorer lies down and has not yet fallen asleep, the roommate is already snoring loudly and has fallen asleep. The snoring will keep the non-snorer awake all night, and the person will feel groggy the next day and unable to work or study.

Snoring and disease

People who snore for a long time or who snore severely often suffer from sleep apnea syndrome, in which breathing stops during sleep and oxygen in the blood decreases. This means that the amount of oxygen inhaled throughout the night is less than that of normal people, which will affect memory over time. It has been measured that the memory function of snorers is indeed worse than that of normal people, but the snorers themselves are not aware of it.

How to prevent snoring

1. The first step to prevent snoring is to increase physical exercise and maintain good living habits.

2. Avoid smoking and drinking, because smoking can aggravate respiratory symptoms, and drinking can aggravate snoring, nocturnal breathing disorders and hypoxemia. Especially drinking before bed.

3. For obese people, they should actively lose weight and increase exercise. Our experience is to lose more than 5%-10% of body weight.

4. Snoring patients often have decreased blood oxygen content, so they are often accompanied by high blood pressure, heart rhythm disorders, increased blood viscosity, increased heart burden, and easy to cause cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to blood pressure monitoring and take antihypertensive drugs on time.

5. Do not take sedatives or sleeping pills before going to bed to avoid aggravating the inhibition of respiratory center regulation.

6. Sleep in a side-lying position, especially on the right side, to avoid the tongue, soft palate, and uvula from relaxing and falling back during sleep, which will aggravate upper airway obstruction. You can put a small ball on your back when sleeping to help you stay in a side-lying position.

7. Patients after surgery should eat soft food and avoid eating too hot food. Avoiding strenuous activities is the key to preventing snoring.
