Side effects of cisplatin chemotherapy

Side effects of cisplatin chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is a common treatment for cancer. There are many chemotherapy methods and drugs. For example, cisplatin chemotherapy is also a common chemotherapy drug. Generally speaking, this type of chemotherapy drug has a course of four weeks as a treatment. This drug has a relatively large impact on the kidneys and has obvious side effects. The most common ones are vomiting and nausea, which can cause certain harm to the nervous system.

Side effects of cisplatin chemotherapy:

① Neurotoxicity:

This is mainly related to the total amount of medication used. After the patient develops neurotoxicity, he will show reactions such as deafness, tinnitus, and hearing loss, while peripheral neurotoxicity will cause the patient to show reactions such as decreased muscle strength, loss of sensation in the hands, feet, and socks. This situation is generally difficult to recover from.

② Vomiting and nausea:

Generally, vomiting and nausea will occur 1 to 2 hours after using cisplatin, and strong antiemetics such as 5-hydroxytryptamine 3, dexamethasone, ondansetron, etc. can control acute vomiting. In the later stage, some malt selenium products such as Selenium Weikang can be used to supplement selenium, which can repair the patient's gastrointestinal mucosa, resolve vomiting reactions, improve the patient's physical condition, and enhance the patient's drug resistance.

③Nephrotoxicity:

When the dosage reaches 90mg/m2 or above, it is considered high-risk. Nephrotoxicity usually occurs about half a month after using the drug. Patients will experience increased blood urea, increased blood creatinine, decreased creatinine clearance, hematuria and other reactions, and these reactions will recur repeatedly. Long-term high-dose treatment can lead to mild to moderate renal damage. Currently, there is no other effective treatment method except hydration.

④ Bone marrow suppression:

The incidence of this side effect is mainly related to the dosage of the drug. When the dosage is less than 100mg/m2, the incidence is 10%-20%; when the dosage is greater than 120md/m2, the incidence is 40%. In addition, the bone marrow suppression caused by cisplatin can also be accumulated with the bone marrow suppression of other chemotherapy drugs, and the side effect reaction will be more intense. The white blood cell and platelet count will further decrease. Note that when the white blood cell count is less than 3.5x10^9/L and the platelet count is less than 75x10^9/L, the medication must be stopped.
