The difference between a goose and a gander

The difference between a goose and a gander

Goose is a common poultry animal in our daily life. According to the discovery of biological evolutionists, geese evolved from wild geese thousands of years ago. Not only that, because geese have long necks and often raise their heads, many people describe a person's temperament as that of a swan, which is to compliment a person on his or her temperament. However, most people cannot tell the difference between a female goose and a gander. Today I will explain to you the difference between a female goose and a gander.

1. Identification of goose appearance

There are three main ways to identify a gosling's appearance. The first is to look at the head, neck and body. Any goose with a big, upright head, a thick and long neck, a slightly larger body weight and a slightly longer body is a male goose; otherwise, it is a female goose. The second is to look at the nostrils and nose base. The nostrils of a newborn male goose are narrow, linear along the beak, and the nose base is soft and has no undulations in the plane. On the contrary, a female goose has slightly larger and slightly oval nostrils, a hard nose base and obvious undulations in the plane. The third is to look at the forehead (the hair between the two eyes) and the lower jaw. A male goose has upright forehead hair and a sunken midline. On the contrary, a female goose has lying forehead hair, which is most obvious 3 to 4 days after hatching. In addition, turn the gosling over with its belly facing up, and check the edge of the long hair on the lower jaw. If it is semicircular or slightly flat and neat, it is a female goose; if there is no obvious protrusion and it is uneven, it is a gander.

2. Action identification

When driving away goslings, if the one that lowers its head and stretches its neck to make a frightened cry is a gander, the cry of which is generally high, sharp and clear; if the one that holds its head high and keeps making calls is a female goose, the cry of which is low, rough and turbid.

3. Feather color identification

For goslings of the same breed, after the down of the hatched goslings has dried, those with darker fur are mostly female geese, while those with slightly lighter fur are mostly ganders.

4. Anal Identification

Anal inversion

When turning the gooseneck over, hold the gosling by the neck and place it with its belly facing up on the table or on the operator's knees. The tail was spread dorsally to expose the cloaca. After putting a finger glove on one finger and applying Vaseline, insert the finger into the cloaca 1.5 cm and gently make circular massage to relax the cloacal sphincter. Then press down to open the cloaca. The chick with a protruding penis is a male, and the chick with only triangular petal-shaped wrinkles is a female. The male chick's reproductive organ is about 0.5 cm long and spiral-shaped.

When operating, hold the goose with your left hand so that the gosling's back is facing up, with the tiger's mouth placed on its waist and sacrum. Fix the goose's neck at one end of the little finger. Then use the thumb and index finger of your right hand to gently knead the middle and lower part outside the goose's anus. If you feel a sesame-sized protrusion, it is a male gosling, otherwise it is a female gosling. Note that the bulge is located below the anus.

Anal thrust

The anal pushing method is an advanced technique after the anal pinching method has reached a certain level of proficiency, and it is not something that beginners can master. Exercise method: Fix the gosling with your left hand (same as pinching anus method), and gently push up from the lower end of its anus with the middle finger of your right hand. If you feel a sesame-sized protrusion, it is a male gosling, and if not, it is a female gosling.
