The dangers of injecting anesthesia into the spine

When suffering from certain diseases, they are generally treated with drugs or surgery. For many diseases, patients need to be given anesthesia during surgical treatment. After the anesthesia, the patient will not feel pain during the operation, which is very helpful for the smooth progress of the operation. However, many people have some fear of anesthesia, thinking that anesthesia will affect their health.

The dangers of injecting anesthesia into the spine

First, the anesthesia operation process, monitoring process, and postoperative analgesia are the same as other medical operations, which will more or less cause certain trauma, but most of them can be ignored. Some of them may cause nerve damage (such as some nerve block anesthesia) or other tissues (bone, blood vessels, ligaments, etc.), but these tissues will repair themselves. Most of them can be intact within a few days to a month after anesthesia, and may only leave a small scar on the skin surface; very few will cause serious consequences, which are really anesthesia accidents. We cannot avoid saying that there is no such possibility, but if it occurs, there will be corresponding measures to deal with it in time. If it cannot be handled well, it is really rare. In that case, it may be almost the same whether anesthesia is used or not.

Second, the drugs used for anesthesia, like other drugs, have their own pharmacological mechanisms, applicability and toxic side effects. However, when used reasonably by a qualified anesthesiologist, you will not feel how terrible they are. Usually, anesthetic drugs are no longer used after the operation. After a certain drug metabolic half-life, the effects of the drugs used for anesthesia on the body gradually disappear.

Third, it seems that surgery can be performed without anesthesia, but please think carefully: pain is the most basic and may be bearable, but pain causes the body's autonomic nervous system reaction (sweating, heart rate changes, blood pressure fluctuations caused by adrenaline secretion, imbalance between supply and demand of brain oxygen consumption, etc.), and pain stimulation causes muscle contraction, which will bring trouble to the surgery. Severe cases may make the surgery impossible or even life-threatening.

What should I pay attention to after taking anesthesia?

1. Since patients under local anesthesia are conscious, they need to cooperate with the doctor's diagnosis and treatment process. Patients under general anesthesia are unable to cooperate with doctors.

2. After waking up from general anesthesia, the patient will be in a stage of transition from anesthesia to wakefulness. The patient may experience unexpected conditions such as delirium or cognitive dysfunction. During the preoperative visit, the physician will communicate with the patient and hope that the patient will remain quiet. If there is pain, the patient can tell the doctor, who will quickly deal with the pain and help the patient spend the waking period in a comfortable and quiet state.
