What is the reason for coughing and clearing phlegm

Compared with fever, cough takes longer to heal. Fever only requires taking antipyretics in time, resting and sweating to reduce the temperature. But coughing is different. Even if you don’t have a fever, you will cough from time to time. You may even not feel it during the day but start coughing as soon as you go to bed. Not only that, coughing is often accompanied by clear sputum. What causes cough and phlegm?

It may be pharyngitis. Pharyngitis is difficult to cure. Taking medicine can only relieve the symptoms. You mainly rely on yourself to prevent it. Usually, put watermelon frost or Huasu tablets in your mouth. Drink more warm water on weekdays to ensure sleep and don't stay up late.

Pharyngitis is a nonspecific inflammation of the pharynx. It is a general term for inflammation caused by various microorganisms infecting the pharynx. It can exist alone, coexist with rhinitis, tonsillitis and laryngitis, or be a prodromal symptom of certain diseases. Can be divided into acute pharyngitis and chronic pharyngitis. Acute pharyngitis is an acute inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa and submucosal tissue. The pharyngeal lymphoid tissue is often involved. The inflammation may be localized in the early stages, but as the disease progresses, it often involves the entire pharyngeal cavity. It is more common in autumn and winter, and at the turn of winter and spring. The main symptoms are dryness, burning, pain in the throat, obvious pain when swallowing, congestion and swelling in the throat, etc.

Chronic pharyngitis can be divided into chronic simple pharyngitis, chronic hypertrophic pharyngitis and atrophic pharyngitis. Among them, chronic simple pharyngitis is more common. The lesions are mainly in the mucosal layer, manifested as chronic congestion of the pharyngeal mucosa, hyperplasia of the mucosal and submucosal connective tissue, hypertrophy of the mucous glands, hypersecretion, and increased mucus secretion. Patients often cough up sticky phlegm in the throat, or feel a foreign body sensation in the throat that they cannot cough up or swallow. It is more common in adults, with a long course of disease, easy relapse, stubborn symptoms and difficulty in cure.

Mainly viral and bacterial infections. It is mostly transmitted by droplets or direct contact. The human pharynx is the passage behind the nasal cavity and oral cavity, which can be divided into three parts: nasopharynx, oropharynx and laryngopharynx. The pharynx is rich in lymphoid tissue, which is gathered into groups called tonsils. Because the pharynx is rich in lymphatic tissue, it is one of the main gateways for the human body to block the invasion of pathogens, especially bacteria. However, due to the complex structure of the pharynx, which is prone to the accumulation of foreign matter such as food residues, bacteria are more likely to stay, multiply and cause inflammation in the human pharynx.

In addition, weakened body resistance, such as fatigue, cold, excessive smoking and drinking, are often the causes of this disease. This disease can also be secondary to a cold or acute tonsillitis. Repeated attacks of acute pharyngitis or incomplete treatment, as well as irritation from lesions in adjacent organs such as sinusitis, tonsillitis, nasopharyngitis, tracheitis, etc., can develop into chronic pharyngitis. Excessive smoking and drinking, spicy food, smoke, dust and harmful gas stimulation are also common causes.
