7 major causes of osteoporosis

7 major causes of osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is more common in middle-aged and elderly people. With age, the body's immune function declines, and the bones are not as hard as before. In addition, due to lack of exercise and sun exposure, calcium in the body is lost while not replenished. Therefore, osteoporosis gradually occurs over time. So what should we do if osteoporosis occurs?

Causes of osteoporosis

1. Aging: One of the natural phenomena of human aging.

2. Decrease in estrogen : Estrogen stimulates bone formation and inhibits bone breakdown. If women have their ovaries removed or enter menopause and their estrogen secretion stops or decreases, osteoporosis will be accelerated, which is one of the factors leading to osteoporosis.

3. Nutritional imbalance : Insufficient calcium intake or frequent consumption of high-protein, high-salt foods or addiction to smoking and drinking are one of the factors that lead to osteoporosis.

4. Abnormal life: lack of exercise and less sun exposure.

5. Disease : Suffering from kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis or certain cancers is one of the factors that lead to osteoporosis.

6. Drugs : People who take steroids, anticancer drugs, diuretics, anticoagulants, stomach medicines or painkillers for a long time.

7. Heredity: Osteoporosis is somewhat hereditary, which is also one of the factors leading to osteoporosis.

What are the causes of osteoporosis? What are the treatments for osteoporosis? How to treat osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis treatment methods

1. Exercise

In adulthood, various types of exercise help maintain bone mass. Menopausal women who exercise for 3 hours per week have an increase in overall calcium. However, for those who suffer from amenorrhea due to excessive exercise, bone loss is accelerated. Exercise can also improve agility and balance, encouraging people with osteoporosis to be as active as possible.

2. Nutrition

Good nutrition is important for preventing osteoporosis, including adequate amounts of calcium, vitamin D, vitamin C, and protein. Starting from childhood, the daily diet should contain sufficient calcium intake, as calcium affects the achievement of peak bone mass.

3. Prevent falls

The incidence of falls in patients with osteoporosis should be minimized to reduce hip fractures and Colles fractures.

4. Drug treatment

The first category is drugs that inhibit bone resorption, including calcium supplements, vitamin D and active vitamin D, calcitonin, bisphosphonates, estrogen and isoflavones. The second category is bone-boosting drugs, including fluoride, synthetic steroids, parathyroid hormone, and isoflavones.
