What's wrong with the scab in the ear

Ear scabs are a very common phenomenon. Many people have scabs on their ears. The most common cause of this phenomenon is ear inflammation, that is, otitis canal. It is best to go to the ENT department of a regular hospital in time to find out the cause and then receive targeted treatment. You must keep the ear canal dry, do not let water enter the ears, and do not frequently pick your ears with your hands.

Can otitis externa heal itself without treatment?

After discovering that they have otitis externa, patients must receive timely treatment. If the patient can receive treatment as early as possible, the treatment effect will be very good. However, if the patient does not pay attention, the acute otitis externa will develop into a chronic disease and even lead to tinnitus, deafness and other conditions.

The following points should be noted in the treatment of otitis externa:

1. Pay attention to hygiene before you get sick, especially children. People with purulent otitis media, ear furuncle, or infant eczema should pay special attention to local cleanliness and dryness, keep the ears and their surroundings clean, and be careful not to pick their ears randomly.

2. After getting sick, avoid washing with water. If it is dirty or has scabs accumulated, rub it with vegetable oil first, wait until it is loose, and then gently wipe it clean with gauze or sterilized soft paper. If washing is really necessary, use Sophora flavescens decoction.

3. Replace external medications on time and take oral medications on time.

4. Avoid scratching when it itches. If necessary, soak some salt water and drop it on the itchy area. The concentration is based on the standard of being able to relieve itching. If the child is young, prevent him from scratching.

5. During the illness, avoid alcohol, spicy foods (such as onions, garlic, leeks, chili peppers, pepper, mustard greens, snow vegetable, ginger, curry), fishy foods, freshwater products, and seafood.

6. When taking a bath, getting a haircut, or showering, be careful to prevent dirty water from entering. Before washing your hair or swimming, you can use a special rubber plug or a clean cotton ball to block the external auditory canal.

After suffering from otitis externa, patients must receive timely treatment and should also pay more attention in daily life, especially when swimming, be sure not to let water enter the ears, otherwise it will aggravate the development of the disease and increase the difficulty of treatment.

There are two treatment methods for otitis externa. Patients can choose the appropriate method according to their condition and the severity of the disease.

Drug treatment. Generally, drug therapy mainly aims to reduce the size of the perforation through antibacterial, pus drainage and swelling reduction. However, it is difficult to heal the perforation with drug treatment alone, and it is difficult to cure otitis externa, which is very prone to recurrence.

Tympanoplasty is a traditional treatment method suitable for osteophyte-type otitis externa and cholesteatoma-type otitis externa. It generally connects the lesions in the mastoid, tympanic sinus and tympanic cavity with the external auditory canal to form a cavity covered with epithelium, so as to clear the lesions in the mastoid, tympanic sinus, tympanic cavity and tympanic opening of the Eustachian tube, stop pus discharge and obtain dry ears. The disadvantage is that although it can cure some external otitis, it cannot eliminate the lesions and there is a possibility of recurrence.

After the treatment of external otitis, patients must do a good job of daily preventive work. When washing hair or taking a bath, put cotton balls in the ears in advance to prevent dirty water from entering the ears. When you feel thick juice flowing out of the external auditory canal due to inflammation or blood flowing out after the scab is scratched off, wipe it clean with dry soft paper. If the itching is unbearable, soak some salt water and drip it on the itchy area. The concentration should be enough to stop the itching, and then wipe it clean with soft paper. This can effectively prevent bacterial infection.

After the onset of otitis externa, if the patient can actively seek treatment and pay attention in daily life and do a good job of prevention, there is a great chance that it will be cured and the patient does not need to worry too much.
