Benefits of Motherwort

Promote blood circulation and regulate menstruation, promote diuresis and reduce swelling. Used for irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, lochia retention, edema and oliguria; edema caused by acute nephritis.

Effects of Motherwort

1. Effect on the uterus: Motherwort decoction, ethanol extract and motherwort alkaloids have an excitatory effect on the isolated uterus of rabbits, cats and other animals.

2. Effects on cardiovascular system: Motherwort can significantly increase coronary flow and significantly slow down heart rate in isolated guinea pig hearts using isoproterenol to create a myocardial ischemia model. Intravenous injection of motherwort preparations can significantly increase coronary flow, reduce coronary resistance, slow down heart rate, and reduce output and left ventricular work in anesthetized dogs.

3. Anti-platelet aggregation and anti-thrombosis: In vitro experiments have shown that motherwort and its extracts have the effect of antagonizing ADP-induced platelet aggregation in normal animals. In vivo experiments have also shown that motherwort can significantly reduce the total number of platelets in the peripheral circulation and the platelets and their aggregates in the alveolar wall capillaries. Motherwort has a significant dissolving effect on red thrombi in the rabbit's pulmonary circulation. In addition, motherwort also has the effect of enhancing the body's cellular immunity.

4. Other effects: Subcutaneous injection of motherwort has a central nervous system inhibitory effect, with an MLD of 0.4-0.6 g/kg. When rabbits were intravenously injected with 1 mg/kg of leonurine, a significant increase in urine volume was observed. At higher concentrations, leonurine can cause hemolysis in rabbit blood suspension.

Indications

Promote blood circulation and regulate menstruation, promote diuresis and reduce swelling, clear away heat and detoxify.

Treat edema and difficulty urinating. It can be used alone or in combination with Imperata root, Eupatorium fortunei, etc.

Treats water stasis and blood stasis that obstructs the bladder.

It can treat sores, carbuncles, swellings, and skin rashes.

It promotes blood circulation and regulates menstruation. It is used for amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation, postpartum lochia retention, and abdominal pain due to blood stasis.

Can be used for traumatic injuries

Dosage and administration: 10-30g, decocted and taken orally; 12-40g for fresh product. Or boil into paste, make into pills, pound and apply externally or decoct in appropriate amount

Note: Not for use by pregnant women. It is contraindicated for patients without blood stasis or with yin deficiency and anemia.

Others: It can remove blood stasis and promote new growth. It is a good medicine for gynecology and obstetrics, "Jingchanlizhuan"

Storage: Store dried motherwort in a dry place; store fresh motherwort in a cool and humid place.
