Is hot water in plastic bottles toxic?

Plastic can definitely be regarded as one of the top ten inventions of modern times. Because of its light weight and high portability, it was highly sought after in the early days of its invention. Even now, plastic can be found everywhere in our lives. However, its disadvantages include being difficult to degrade and causing environmental pollution. Some drinking cups are made of plastic. Because they are not easy to break, many people like to use plastic cups. Some beverage bottles in our daily lives are also made of plastic. Some people like to use plastic bottles to hold hot water. Will this produce toxins?

1. If you have a plastic bottle in your hand, turn it upside down. At the bottom, you will see a triangle symbol with a number printed in the middle. This number is its ID card. The number can be one of 1 to 7, each representing a plastic material.

2. Mineral water bottles and plastic beverage bottles should be thrown away after drinking. Plastic bottles containing mineral water, juice, and carbonated drinks usually have "1" written on the bottom.

Plastic No. 1, which is polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This material has poor heat resistance and the maximum operating temperature does not exceed 70 degrees Celsius. Once heated or filled with boiling water, it will deform and dissolve harmful substances. Therefore, do not use this type of beverage bottle to store hot water, and do not use it as a water cup or storage item for a long time. It is best to throw it away after drinking.

3. There is a "5" written on the bottom of the cup, and it is fine even if you boil water on it. Many daily drinking cups are made of plastic. Does that mean they can't be used anymore? Don’t worry, if there is a “5” marked on the bottom of the cup, you can safely fill it with hot water. No. 5 plastic material, polypropylene (PP), is the most heat-resistant plastic. If you observe carefully, you will find that plastic tableware for microwave ovens and some baby bottles are made of it and can be reused after cleaning.

4. How do you know whether a PP plastic cup is good or bad? Generally speaking, this plastic material is milky white, translucent and has a uniform color.

Some also add transparent agents (harmless to the human body) to make it completely transparent. Pay special attention not to choose those with strange smells or colors.

Because pure PP plastic has no odor, and adding color is often to cover up the defects of the product material itself.

Space cups and sports cups filled with hot water? When you are advised not to exercise, many people will bring a space cup or sports water cup with a pot of hot water.

It is recommended to do this less in the future. This type of cup is usually made of No. 7 plastic material polycarbonate (PC). It is highly transparent, hard, smooth to the touch, and strong and resistant to falling. Bisphenol A is an endocrine disruptor. If there is any bisphenol A left in PC, the higher the temperature, the more it will be released, so PC bottles cannot be used to hold hot water.
