Apple Allergy Symptoms?

Apple Allergy Symptoms?

Food allergies are very common in life. Most food allergies are caused by abnormalities in the immune system caused by eating. Generally, this abnormality will not only cause physical discomfort, but in severe cases may also endanger life safety. For people with allergies, it is best not to come into contact with allergens. Allergies can have a great impact on the human body. So what are the symptoms of apple allergies?

People with an apple allergy may experience a range of symptoms when eating an apple or soon after. The symptoms of an apple allergy may vary depending on the type of apple the person is allergic to.

Symptoms include:

Itchy throat or mouth

· Swollen lips or throat

· Stomach upset and cramps

· rash or hives

· diarrhea

Types of Apple Allergies

People of any age, race or gender can suffer from an apple allergy. However, people who are allergic to apples may experience changes.

There are two main types of apple allergies. In the first type of apple allergy, people are allergic to a protein in apples that is closely related to the protein in peaches.

For these people, symptoms, which can be very severe, occur almost immediately after they have eaten an apple. People in the Mediterranean region are more prone to this type of apple allergy.

The second type of apple allergy people may have is to a protein within apples that is very similar to the protein found in birch pollen. That's what is called big.

These people usually have a mild reaction, with symptoms developing in the mouth. This is called oral allergy syndrome.

This type of apple allergy is more likely to affect older children and adults in cooler climates, where birch trees are more prevalent. People will have more symptoms in the spring when birch pollen is in the air.

People who develop oral allergy symptoms are more likely to have hay fever and upper respiratory allergies.

What is oral allergy syndrome?

Unlike peanut, wheat, or shellfish allergies, allergies are caused by an allergic reaction to pollen. This reaction can cause some people to develop an itchy throat and mouth after eating certain foods, including apples which contain a protein that is very similar to pollen.

Oral allergy syndrome is sometimes called pollen-fruit syndrome.

Doctors generally consider oral allergy syndrome to be a mild food allergy that results from an allergic reaction in the mouth and throat caused by contact. This means that a person's mouth is conditioned to react after it touches a specific fruit, such as an apple.

People with oral allergy syndrome react to foods based on what kind of seasonal allergies they have. For example, a person with an apple allergy may be allergic to birch pollen, which is very common in the spring.

If a person finds that their seasonal allergy symptoms worsen in the spring, they are more likely to have oral allergy syndrome from eating apples, which can be a cross-reactive condition.

Symptoms of oral allergy syndrome

Symptoms of oral allergy syndrome vary from person to person. Symptoms are usually mild but occasionally can be severe.

Usually, oral allergy syndrome symptoms occur only in or around the mouth. Symptoms may include any combination of the following:

Itchy mouth or throat

· Swelling of the lips, mouth, or tongue

Itchy, swollen throat

Itchy ears

Triggers and Foods to Avoid

Apples aren't the only food that can trigger oral allergy syndrome symptoms. Other triggers of oral allergy syndrome are related to the following food allergens:

Birch pollen

Pollen

Grass pollen

Typical trigger foods for oral allergy syndrome include the following:

· almond

· carrot

· cherry

· celery

· peach

· Plum

· pear

· watermelon

· tomato

· orange

· kiwi

· banana

Sunflower seeds

· cucumber

Zucchini

People who are allergic to apples may want to avoid these foods if they also cause a reaction.

When to see a doctor

Those experiencing food allergy symptoms should consult a doctor for a diagnosis. While doctors can test for immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies to identify food allergy risk, it may not be accurate in diagnosing oral allergy syndrome.

An allergist will base the diagnosis on a variety of factors, including history of symptoms, skin prick tests, blood tests, and oral food tests.

Allergy sufferers should be aware of the risk of anaphylaxis, a medical emergency that causes the body to go into shock as a person's blood pressure rapidly drops and the airways narrow.
